Senior Software Development Engineer, ZHL Operating System
About the team
Finding your dream home is only the first step — financing it is where the real complexity lives. On the ZHL Nexus team, we're building the Operating System (OS): the first-party platform where Zillow Home Loans operators run their entire day. Loan officers, processors, and support staff work hundreds of borrowers through origination, and today they do it across multiple tools and surfaces. We're replacing that with a purpose-built, operator-first experience — and we're doing it while the business runs at full speed. It's a fast-moving team with a direct line between the code you ship and the people using it.About the role
As a Senior Software Engineer on ZHL OS, you'll own significant surface area of the operator experience end to end. This role leans front-end: you'll shape our micro-frontend architecture, our shared component patterns, and the data-fetching layer that ties dozens of independently-deployed experiences into something that feels like one product.
Experience is important, but equally valuable is the ability to work in a fast-paced, dynamic environment to ensure that our solutions meet the defined requirements and make our users' lives easier. We are seeking to find an ambitious individual who can make an impact as both a leader and individual contributor by raising the quality of our products to the highest level.
You will get to
- Architect, design, and implement scalable, maintainable software applications and services that align with business and user needs.
- Lead end-to-end development efforts, including solution design, coding, code reviews, testing, deployment, and monitoring for complex features.
- Optimize application performance, reliability, security, and operability through thoughtful design and observability.
- Collaborate with product, engineering, and other partner teams to translate requirements into technical solutions and drive alignment.
- Mentor and coach engineers by sharing best practices in software design, coding standards, and operational excellence.
- Champion modern engineering practices (automation, CI/CD, testability) and contribute to technical standards that improve quality.
Who you are
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Computer engineering, or a related technical field.
- 8+ years of professional software engineering experience designing, building, and supporting production applications or services.
- Demonstrated experience delivering complex software solutions in a collaborative, cross-functional environment.
- Experience mentoring other engineers and contributing to team-level technical decisions and standards.
- Or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
