The Defense Industrial Base (DIB) Operating Unit (OU) is a newly formed team with a bold mission: to consolidate, simplify, and accelerate Microsoft’s presence across the DIB landscape. This expansive network includes over 100,000 organizations specializing in manufacturing, aviation, cybersecurity, and more—all united in their support of all Federal Agencies, including the U.S. DoW and other mission-based intelligence and civilian organizations.

Our team is dedicated to empowering these commercial contractors throughout their digital transformation journey—from envisioning new possibilities to delivering secure, scalable solutions that drive mission outcomes, elevate customer experience, and fuel Microsoft’s growth.The DIB OU will directly manage and accelerate strategic and major DIB accounts across Microsoft Customer and Partner Solutions (MCAPS) Americas, while also enabling Defense Innovation growth across other OUs. We’re building new relationships, transforming legacy operations, and helping our customers modernize with confidence.

Microsoft is seeking a Senior Security Solution Engineer to help leading defense, aerospace, intelligence, and critical infrastructure organizations transform through secure adoption of cloud, data, and AI. This role combines deep cybersecurity expertise, executive-level customer engagement, business acumen, and the ability to lead across complex customer and Microsoft stakeholder environments.

Responsibilities

Own the Technical Strategy for Assigned Accounts

  • Develop and execute account-level security technical strategies aligned to documented customer priorities, regulatory obligations, modernization plans, and AI ambitions.
  • Build trusted relationships with CISOs, CIOs, security architects, SOC leaders, identity teams, data security leaders, and cloud platform teams.
  • Lead architecture discussions that position Microsoft as a strategic security platform, not a collection of disconnected products.
  • Bring a clear technical point of view to account planning and translate customer signals into prioritized actions.

Drive Technical Wins

  • Lead discovery, architecture, solution design, demonstrations, workshops, pilots, and technical validation activities.
  • Define and influence customer decision criteria, success measures, evaluation plans, and security roadmaps.
  • Identify technical risks early and drive the right resources and actions to resolve them.
  • Convert complex technical engagements into clear recommendations, decisions, and next steps.

Accelerate Secure AI Adoption

  • Guide customers on AI security posture, data protection for AI, identity and access for agents, AI governance, and security foundations required for responsible AI adoption.
  • Help customers securely deploy Microsoft Copilot and agents while maximizing the security capabilities they already own.
  • Connect AI security requirements to identity, data, endpoint, cloud, and security operations architectures.

Orchestrate Across the Customer Lifecycle

  • Partner closely with Security Specialists, account teams, Customer Success, FastTrack, partners, engineering, and cross-solution-area technical teams.
  • Serve as the technical continuity leader from initial strategy and evaluation through deployment, adoption, and value realization.
  • Make deliberate use of available programs, investments, and specialist resources to accelerate customer outcomes.
  • Create clarity across stakeholders on ownership, dependencies, risks, and next actions.

Drive Adoption and Customer Outcomes

  • Help customers deploy, operationalize, and expand Microsoft Security capabilities across Microsoft Sentinel, Microsoft Defender, Microsoft Entra, Microsoft Purview, Security Copilot, Microsoft 365 E5/G5, and Azure security services.
  • Move engagements beyond feature demonstrations and deployment milestones toward measurable improvements in security operations, risk reduction, platform consolidation, and mission readiness.
  • Identify opportunities to expand workload adoption based on customer needs, usage signals, technical gaps, and future priorities.
Qualifications

Required Qualifications:

  • Master's Degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or related field AND 3+ years technical pre-sales or technical consulting experience
    OR
    • Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or related field AND 4+ years technical pre-sales or technical consulting experience OR 5+ years technical pre-sales or technical consulting experience
    • OR equivalent experience. 

Other Requirements:

  • Cloud Screening: Candidates must be able to successfully complete and pass a Microsoft Cloud background screening. Required Cloud Screenings will be administered on a recurring bi-annual basis.
  • Microsoft is unable to sponsor a work visa for this role due to the nature of the role’s job duties. 
  • Citizenship & Citizenship Verification: This position requires verification of U.S citizenship due to citizenship-based legal restrictions. Specifically, this position supports United States federal, state, and/or local United States government agency customers and is subject to certain citizenship-based restrictions where required or permitted by applicable law. To meet this legal requirement, citizenship will be verified via a valid passport, or other approved documents, or verified US government clearance. 
  • The ability to obtain and maintain a United States Security Clearance.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Demonstrated expertise in several of the following areas: security operations, identity and access management, data security, endpoint security, cloud security, AI security, Zero Trust, or enterprise security architecture.
  • Ability to communicate technical strategy and risk clearly with both senior executives and deeply technical practitioners.
  • Experience coordinating multidisciplinary teams and influencing decisions without direct authority.
  • Experience supporting Defense Industrial Base, federal, aerospace, intelligence, or national security customers.
  • Working knowledge of CMMC, NIST SP 800-171, Zero Trust, FedRAMP, and regulated cloud environments such as GCC High.
  • Experience with Microsoft Sentinel, Microsoft Defender, Microsoft Entra, Microsoft Purview, Security Copilot, Microsoft 365 E5/G5, or Azure security services.
  • Experience with secure AI adoption, AI governance, identity for agents, and data security for AI.
  • Relevant industry certifications such as CISSP, CCSP, CISM, GIAC, or Microsoft security certifications.
  • Experience mentoring peers, creating reusable technical assets, and scaling best practices across teams.

Solution Engineering IC4 - The typical base pay range for this role across the U.S. is USD $106,400 - $203,600 per year. There is a different range applicable to specific work locations, within the San Francisco Bay area and New York City metropolitan area, and the base pay range for this role in those locations is USD $137,600 - $222,600 per year.
