At Oracle Cloud Infrastructure (OCI), we build and operate cloud infrastructure at global scale. OCI Dedicated Region25 (DR25) delivers the capabilities of an OCI cloud region within a customer-selected data center through a compact, modular architecture that can expand as customer demand grows.

We are seeking a Senior Network Engineer to join the DR25 Network Engineering team. This is a hands-on individual-contributor role responsible for designing, implementing, and operating resilient physical and logical network infrastructure. You will independently own well-defined projects and significant portions of larger programs, working from requirements and design through modeling, testing, deployment, operational handoff, and production support.

The successful candidate will combine strong networking fundamentals with automation, disciplined change execution, and practical problem-solving. You will collaborate with network automation, virtual networking, compute, hardware, security, monitoring, region deployment, and operations teams to deliver reliable, secure, and repeatable DR25 deployments.

Network Engineering Expertise & Experience:

Core networking: Strong grasp of L2/L3/L4, IP addressing/subnetting, BGP/OSPF/IS-IS, EVPN/VXLAN, ECMP, QoS, NAT, DNS/DHCP fundamentals.

Cloud networking: Working proficiency with VPC/VNet, routing tables, NAT gateways, PrivateLink/service endpoints, transit/peering, L4/L7 load balancing, firewalling, and hybrid connectivity.

Security and compliance: Practical experience with segmentation, zero-trust concepts, ACLs/policies, IPsec/TLS, DDoS mitigation patterns, and change/access controls; familiarity with audit evidence practices.

Automation and IaC: Hands-on with Terraform and/or Ansible; Git, CI/CD workflows; scripting (e.g., Python); API-driven network devices/platforms; policy-as-code and testing practices.

Observability: Experience implementing SNMP/telemetry, NetFlow/IPFIX, flow logs, dashboards/alerting; SLI/SLO definition and use in operations.

Operations: On-call experience, runbook execution, RCA participation, change management (approval, staging, rollback).

Collaboration and communication: Clear written designs/runbooks, effective participation in reviews, ability to influence immediate and related teams; respectful, security-first mindset.

Problem solving and innovation: Ability to solve standard and non-standard problems by adapting established techniques; propose improvements to reliability, performance, and cost.

Responsibilities

Key Responsibilities

Design, implement, and operate resilient Layer 2, Layer 3, and Layer 4 network services for DR25 data-center environments.
Own defined network projects end to end, including requirements, technical design, implementation, validation, deployment, documentation, and operational handoff.
Develop IP-addressing plans and routing policies using technologies such as BGP, OSPF, IPv4, IPv6, ECMP, and high-availability routing.
Support modular region deployment and expansion by developing repeatable network designs, configuration models, validation procedures, and operational standards.
Integrate physical network infrastructure with cloud virtual networking, service connectivity, and overlay architectures.
Build and maintain network infrastructure-as-code, source-of-truth models, validation tools, and automation using Python, APIs, Git-based workflows, and CI/CD practices.
Execute complex production changes using approved methods of procedure, pre-change validation, post-change verification, and tested rollback plans.
Improve deployment safety and speed by creating reusable configuration patterns, automated tests, compliance checks, and drift-detection capabilities.
Establish production readiness through monitoring, telemetry, dashboards, alerts, capacity analysis, troubleshooting procedures, and operational runbooks.
Participate in on-call and operational rotations, serving as an escalation point for network incidents and leading root-cause analysis for issues within the engineer’s area of ownership.
Troubleshoot physical and logical network issues involving routing, switching, cabling, optics, device software, configuration, automation, and service connectivity.
Work with vendor and qualification teams to investigate defects and validate new hardware platforms, optics, firmware, and network operating-system releases.
Produce clear design documents, diagrams, deployment specifications, runbooks, decision records, and leadership-ready status updates.
Contribute to architecture and design reviews, identify opportunities to improve existing systems, and help evolve team standards and reference designs.
Mentor peers and junior engineers through technical guidance, code and document reviews, troubleshooting sessions, and knowledge sharing.
Use AI-assisted engineering tools responsibly to accelerate network modeling, automation, validation, troubleshooting, and documentation while independently verifying outputs.

Required Qualifications

Eight years of relevant network-engineering experience; or a bachelor’s degree in a relevant technical field and four years of experience; or a master’s degree and two years of experience; or a relevant doctorate.
Strong understanding of Layer 2 through Layer 4 networking, IP addressing and subnetting, BGP, OSPF, IPv4, IPv6, TCP/IP, DNS, DHCP, NAT, ECMP, and high-availability design.
Experience designing, deploying, or operating data-center, cloud, service-provider, or large-enterprise networks.
Hands-on experience automating network provisioning, configuration, validation, or operations using Python or another programming language.
Experience with Git, APIs, CI/CD workflows, automated testing, configuration modeling, or infrastructure-as-code practices.
Experience executing production network changes with appropriate risk assessment, validation, rollback, and change-management controls.
Demonstrated troubleshooting skills across network protocols, devices, automation systems, and physical infrastructure.
Experience participating in incident response, root-cause analysis, operational readiness, and continuous-improvement efforts.
Ability to work independently, manage project milestones and dependencies, and coordinate effectively with adjacent engineering and operations teams.
Strong written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to produce clear technical designs, runbooks, and project updates.

Preferred Qualifications

Experience building or operating hyperscale cloud, service-provider, ISP, or large-scale data-center networks.
Proven experience partnering with cloud networking and platform teams to integrate virtual network services with physical underlay infrastructure in large-scale overlay environments.
Experience with Clos or spine-leaf fabrics, EVPN/VXLAN, SDN overlays, traffic engineering, segmentation, and secure service connectivity.
Experience with Terraform, Ansible, YANG, OpenConfig, NETCONF, gNMI, or comparable model-driven networking technologies.
Experience implementing network telemetry and observability using SNMP, streaming telemetry, NetFlow/IPFIX, flow logs, dashboards, alerting, and service-level indicators.
Knowledge of network-security principles, including ACL and routing-policy management, least privilege, segmentation, MACsec, IPsec, and TLS.
Experience with commodity Ethernet platforms, optics, structured cabling, hardware qualification, and network operating-system validation.
Experience improving operational workflows through automated validation, reusable runbooks, deployment guardrails, or configuration-drift detection.
Experience using AI-assisted engineering tools to improve automation, testing, troubleshooting, documentation, or operational efficiency.
