(Senior) Motor Design Engineer, Optimus
Description
Join the Tesla Optimus team and help build the future of general-purpose humanoid robotics. We are seeking a talented electric motor designer for the Optimus Powertrain Design team in Athens, with a focus on electromagnetic modeling and design of electric motors for Optimus actuators. We are open to experience levels at Engineer or Senior level, depending on experience.
Responsibilities
- Design electric motors for Optimus actuators.
- Develop advanced MATLAB functions to model actuator performance.
- Perform system design optimization studies for the Optimus powertrain.
- Process big data, visualize results and inform data-driven decisions in actuator component selection.
- Own motor modeling accuracy for Optimus actuators, by validating in-house FEA tools vs external commercial solvers and ensuring alignment with experimental data.
- Monitor & analyze actuator EOL data to ensure consistency and production scalability.
Requirements
- BSc in Electrical Engineering, or equivalent
- Previous relevant experience as an Engineer
- Strong knowledge of motor electromagnetic design.
- Very good understanding of electromagnetics and electric circuits.
- Strong mathematical and physics background.
- Strong MATLAB programming skills.
- Experience analyzing electric motors using Finite Element Method.
- Ability to communicate in English language at a professional level, both verbally and written
The following are desireable, but not essential:
- Understanding of optimization fundamentals
- Power electronics and control fundamentals
- Understanding of mechanical design, thermodynamics and heat transfer principles.
- Experience in utilizing commercial FEA solvers (e.g. Ansys, JMAG)
- Experience in performing electrical and/or dyno-level measurements
- Experience in modeling losses in electrical machines
