Introduction to team:

Data is central to how Expedia Group operates, serves travellers, and makes decisions. When data is incomplete, inaccurate, delayed, or difficult to interpret, the impact can extend across products, analytics, operations, and customer experiences.

The Data Quality Platform team is responsible for building a centralized, scalable, and extensible platform that helps teams proactively understand, validate, and trust their data across batch and streaming datasets. We provide automated profiling, configurable quality rules, data contracts, anomaly detection, incident workflows, alerting, and data health visibility so data producers can identify and resolve issues closer to the source.

We focus on building reliable, high-performance, secure, and cost-effective platform services that integrate with data pipelines and analytical systems. Typical technologies include Java, Kotlin, Spring, REST, gRPC, Amazon Web Services, Spark, Kafka, Airflow and Agentic AI. We encourage experimentation with new technologies, including machine-assisted data quality workflows, while balancing short- and long-term goals and maintaining a high bar for platform quality and operational excellence.

In this role, you will:

  • Lead, coach, and develop one software engineering team responsible for designing, building, and operating robust, scalable, and secure Data Quality Platform services.
  • Set technical direction for your team across data profiling, quality rules, data contracts, anomaly detection, alerting, incident management, and data health experiences.
  • Lead and collaborate on complex, cross-organizational initiatives, making thoughtful resource, delivery, product, and architectural trade-offs to maximize strategic value.
  • Partner closely with product managers, architects, program managers, data platform teams, and data domain owners to prioritize roadmaps, clarify requirements, and deliver measurable outcomes.
  • Define and raise engineering standards for coding, testing, architecture, observability, security, continuous delivery, performance, and cost management.
  • Ensure reliable operation of production systems through effective on-call strategies, incident management, root-cause analysis, capacity planning, and continuous improvement of service-level indicators and objectives.
  • Safely integrate and operate machine-assisted capabilities that improve rule authoring, anomaly detection, and issue explanation, applying artificial intelligence and machine learning concepts to practical data platform workflows.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s Degree or Equivalent Level; Technical Degree Preferred.
  • 8+ years of relevant professional experience and 3+ years of people management experience.
  • Proven track record of end-to-end ownership for complex software or data platform systems, including system design, application programming interface design, data modelling, implementation, and ongoing operations within a defined product or domain scope.
  • Strong proficiency in core software engineering fundamentals, including data structures, algorithms, distributed systems, testing, continuous integration and delivery, and building secure, reliable, and observable services.
  • Experience working with data platforms, data quality, data observability, data pipelines, data contracts, analytics systems, or a closely related domain.
  • Demonstrated ability to set technical direction, make data-driven trade-offs, and align cross-functional stakeholders to deliver high-quality software at scale.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience leading a software engineering team within a large-scale, distributed technology environment, with accountability for team-level architecture, technical strategy, and delivery outcomes.
  • Track record of designing and evolving high-throughput data systems, including service decomposition, data modelling at scale, backward-compatible application programming interfaces, and integration with batch or streaming pipelines.
  • Deep experience with production operations at scale, including site reliability engineering practices, capacity planning, performance optimization, and building systems for high availability and resilience.
  • Demonstrated ability to drive architectural modernization, platform migration, or legacy system deprecation while maintaining strong delivery and operational outcomes.
  • Experience with cloud-native data processing, workflow orchestration, data contracts, anomaly detection, machine-assisted software or data quality workflows, and observability platforms.
  • Proven ability to build an inclusive, high-performance engineering culture and develop engineers through feedback, coaching, career planning, and meaningful technical opportunities.
