About the Team

The People Technology team supports the systems, data, and tools used across Yahoo’s People organization. We partner with HR teams to improve workflows, reduce manual work, and make it easier for employees and managers to get the support they need. AI is a growing part of that work, and the team is focused on helping HR use it in ways that are practical, secure, and responsible.

About the Role

We’re hiring a Senior Manager, HR AI Strategy & Governance to help determine where AI can add the most value across HR and put the right structure around how it is used. Partnering closely with the Director of People Technology, you’ll help shape the AI roadmap, prioritize use cases, and manage the governance process that moves new ideas through the appropriate legal, privacy, and security reviews.

You’ll provide direction on the solutions the team takes on and manage a direct report. While this is not primarily a development role, you’ll stay close to the work, help scope more complex solutions, and provide hands-on support when needed. You’ll also work with HR teams to improve their AI capabilities and partner with technical teams on solutions that require more advanced infrastructure or data access.

What You’ll Do

  • Set direction for HR’s AI roadmap
    • Partner with the Director of People Technology and HR leaders to identify priorities and develop a clear AI roadmap
    • Assess potential use cases based on value, feasibility, effort, risk, and timing
    • Create a consistent process for prioritizing requests and managing the use-case backlog
    • Define and track measures of adoption, impact, efficiency, and ROI
  • Manage AI governance for HR
    • Manage the intake and review process for new AI use cases
    • Coordinate the appropriate legal, privacy, security, and compliance reviews
    • Maintain and improve standards for responsible AI use, data protection, and model performance
    • Serve as a primary point of contact between HR and internal governance partners
  • Guide AI and automation solutions
    • Work with HR teams to understand workflow challenges and identify practical solutions
    • Scope solutions and guide the work from initial idea and prototype through adoption and improvement
    • Partner with technical teams on more complex solutions, such as HR assistants, case routing, and people analytics reporting
    • Provide hands-on support for select prototypes and workflows when needed
  • Improve the technical foundation
    • Partner with People Technology, Data Engineering, IT, and other technical teams to create secure ways to use HR data
    • Help move AI-enabled workflows away from temporary or manual solutions and toward secure, scalable infrastructure
    • Support the use of platforms such as BigQuery and Google Cloud Platform
    • Establish clear standards for evaluating AI tools and connecting them to the HR technology ecosystem
  • Improve high-friction HR workflows
    • Identify manual or inefficient processes where AI or automation could make a meaningful difference
    • Help design solutions that reduce work for HR teams and improve the employee experience
    • Encourage approaches that can be maintained, reused, and expanded over time
  • Help the People team build its AI capabilities
    • Advise HR teams as they identify and develop AI-enabled workflows
    • Support teams working through more complex use cases
    • Develop training and practical guidance for using AI tools safely and effectively
    • Help teams understand where AI is useful, where it has limitations, and when additional review is needed
  • Partner cross-functionally
    • Partner with teams across HR to turn their needs into clear priorities and workable solutions
    • Collaborate with Data Engineering, IT, Legal, Privacy, Security, and other central-services teams
    • Work through technical or governance roadblocks while balancing progress with appropriate safeguards
  • Lead and develop the team
    • Provide day-to-day leadership, set clear priorities, and support professional development
    • Create clarity around what the team should take on and where its time will have the greatest impact
    • Encourage a thoughtful approach focused on outcomes, adoption, and continuous improvement

What You Bring

  • 8+ years of experience across HR technology, product management, workflow automation, or related areas, including direct experience working within or supporting an HR function
  • Experience developing AI or automation roadmaps, evaluating use cases, and turning business needs into practical solutions
  • Experience working with AI governance, data privacy, compliance, or risk-review processes
  • Working knowledge of LLMs, automation tools, and enterprise integrations, with the ability to assess technical feasibility and guide solution development
  • Familiarity with HR technology platforms such as Workday and data platforms such as BigQuery or Google Cloud Platform
  • The ability to explain AI capabilities, limitations, and risks clearly to technical and nontechnical audiences
  • Experience working across teams, managing competing priorities, and navigating complex stakeholder relationships
  • A track record of improving workflows, reducing manual work, and helping teams adopt new tools or processes
  • Prior experience managing or mentoring a direct report, or demonstrated readiness to take on people management for the first time

What Success Looks Like

Success in this role means HR has a clear and practical approach to using AI. The governance process is running smoothly, incoming use cases are reviewed and prioritized consistently, and the AI roadmap is aligned with the People team’s goals. The team is also making progress toward more secure and scalable ways to use HR data, while employees across the People organization are becoming more confident and capable in using AI responsibly.
