About the Role

Uber is launching AV Labs to accelerate the autonomous technology ecosystem. We're building out a high-velocity team of multi-disciplinary experts to turn real-world operations into high-quality data for our autonomous partners. This team is focused on the hardest problem in AV today: unlocking real-world, long-tail driving data. Autonomy is now a data race—and Uber has an edge: We collect rare, real-world driving data at a scale and capital efficiency no one else can match.

We are seeking an analytical, execution-focused Sr Logistics Engineer to own the physical movement, distribution, and material readiness of hardware components powering both our 500+ vehicle build and our ongoing real-world production fleet operations.

In this role, you are the technical and operational lead for our central warehouse and downstream spares distribution pipeline. Your ultimate mandate is delivery execution: ensuring parts move from point A to point B safely, efficiently, and on time, whether delivering to the assembly floor or sustaining active vehicles running data collection operations in the field.

Hardware deployment at scale is naturally dynamic, requiring a balance of hands-on, real-time problem-solving and a strategic vision for scale. You will actively manage daily supply chain complexities and logistics disruptions to protect factory uptime and maximize real-world fleet availability. Concurrently, you will architect the tracking infrastructure, automated data flows, and inventory tools necessary to eliminate manual tracking errors and turn the daily operational grind into a repeatable, world-class distribution network.

Core Responsibilities

  • Drive Tactical Execution & Real-Time Problem Solving: Act as the core operational escalation point for our logistics pipeline. Personally lead the resolution of day-to-day transit delays, supply chain disruptions, and warehouse bottlenecks to guarantee the vehicle build line never goes down.
  • Architect Scale Infrastructure & Automated Tracking Systems: Design, build, and implement the automated inventory tracking systems and data architecture needed to transition our logistics out of manual spreadsheets and into scalable enterprise workflows. Establish real-time visibility of parts from warehouse receiving, to the factory floor, and out to active field garages.
  • Own Central Warehouse Logistics & Spares Distribution: Assume ultimate accountability for the physical movement of all hardware materials. Manage the initial high-volume pipeline from our central warehouse to the vehicle manufacturing factory, and coordinate the downstream distribution network to ship critical spare parts to active data collection cities as operations scale.
  • Secure On-Time, Damage-Free Delivery: Take direct ownership of ensuring all components arrive at the factory line and field garages on time and completely undamaged. Establish strict packaging, shipping, and handling protocols to eliminate transit-related defects for custom sensors and compute blocks.
  • Drive Factory Material Readiness & Contractor Governance: Align central warehouse inventory directly with the factory’s production schedule and track configuration changes against the production BOM to catch component shortages early. Direct on-the-ground warehouse contractors, formulating their physical SOPs and digital verification gates to ensure 100% data integrity.
  • Synchronize Supplier & Build Vendor Delivery Pipelines: Maintain active communication with hardware parts suppliers and external build vendors to orchestrate diverse inbound shipping routes. Partner with internal sourcing and logistics teams to track part-level ETAs and guarantee immediate component availability on the assembly floor.

Qualifications

  • 7+ Years of Scale Logistics & Operations Track Record: Proven experience managing physical inventory, shipping/receiving, or spare-parts distribution networks within high-complexity hardware industries (e.g., autonomous vehicles, robotics, aerospace, automotive manufacturing, or high-density hardware deployment).
  • Logistics Automation & Infrastructure Fluency: Demonstrated success migrating physical hardware tracking and warehouse dependencies out of ad-hoc tools (like manual spreadsheets) and into automated enterprise architectures, inventory management systems (IMS), or relational data workflows.
  • BOM & Configuration Literacy: Strong competency parsing complex, multi-variant hardware Bills of Materials (EBOM/MBOM) and Engineering Change Orders (ECOs) specifically to forecast central warehouse staging and maintain a 100% clear-to-build status.
  • Operational Team Direction: Experience designing daily workflows, establishing standard operating procedures (SOPs), and auditing the output data integrity of on-the-ground warehouse contractors (EXTs), technicians, or third-party logistics vendors.
  • Analytical Precision & Audit Metrics: Ability to engineer operational rigor, establish strict inventory audit cadences, and define precision metrics (e.g., inventory accuracy, on-time delivery, damage-free arrival rates) within a rapid, scaling deployment environment.
  • Cross-Functional Communication & Visibility: Exceptional ability to synthesize fragmented inventory timelines and supply disruptions into clear, actionable data and material-readiness frameworks for hardware engineering and operations leadership.
  • Supplier & External Vendor Coordination: Proven experience managing communication loops between hardware parts suppliers and external manufacturing partners to track multi-destination inbound flows, verify component ETAs, and collaborate with internal logistics teams.
