To achieve this goal, the CHSE (Cloud Hardware Systems Engineering) team is instrumental in defining and delivering operational measures of success for hardware manufacturing, improving the planning process, quality, delivery, scale and sustainability related to Microsoft cloud hardware. Responsibilities
- Lead end-to-end lab support for a major SCHIE site and coordinate global lab alignment and resource sharing across locations.
- Own lab strategy and roadmap-to-capacity planning across space, power and cooling, networks, racks and benches, tooling, and support coverage to ensure program readiness.
- AI and compute rack readiness, including rack integration, power distribution, cabling and optics, network bring-up, and burn-in scheduling.
- Lead new-site standups, expansions, and platform transitions, including build and cutover plans, go/no-go criteria, migration waves, technical baselines, asset disposition, and early-life stabilization.
- Manage scope, schedules, risks, budgets, dependencies, competing priorities, and escalation paths across lab programs.
- Own long-lead procurement for critical compute, network, power, and specialty equipment, including alternatives, expediting, and supplier performance.
- Drive standardized lab operations and continuous improvement across builds, inventory, safety, security, access controls, documentation, and audit readiness.
- Establish repeatable operating models—including standard procedures, intake workflows, inventory taxonomy, rack templates, and runbooks—to enable consistent execution and geographic expansion.
- Partner with engineering, management, finance, facilities, security, vendors, and support teams to align requirements, decisions, and delivery plans.
- Maintain timely stakeholder communications, decision and risk records, readiness criteria, and operating documentation.

Qualifications
Required Qualifications
- Master's Degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or related field AND 3+ years technical engineering experience
- OR Bachelor's Degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or related field AND 5+ years technical engineering experience
- OR equivalent experience
Other Requirements:
- Ability to meet Microsoft, customer and/or government security screening requirements are required for this role. These requirements include, but are not limited to, the following specialized security screenings:
- Microsoft Cloud Background Check: This position will be required to pass the Microsoft Cloud background check upon hire/transfer and every two years thereafter.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Bachelor's Degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or related field AND 8+ years technical engineering experience
- OR equivalent experience
- 4+ years of experience in engineering, product or technical program management, data analysis, or product development, OR equivalent experience.
- 2+ years of experience managing cross-functional and/or cross-team projects.
- Demonstrated leadership, collaboration, and problem-solving skills in a dynamic environment.
- Experience with Jira, Azure DevOps, or similar work-management tools.
- Ability to engage in dynamic work environment.
- Experience in analytics/metrics reporting.
- Working knowledge of network equipment, peripherals, and compute hardware.
- Effective interpersonal, written, and verbal communication skills, with strong organization, documentation, and attention to detail.
- Experience with analytics and metrics reporting and proficiency with Microsoft 365 applications.
Hardware Engineering IC4 - The typical base pay range for this role across the U.S. is USD $119,800 - $234,700 per year. There is a different range applicable to specific work locations, within the San Francisco Bay area and New York City metropolitan area, and the base pay range for this role in those locations is USD $160,200 - $261,000 per year.
