Senior General Ledger Accountant
What You Can Expect
As a Senior Accountant on Zoom’s General Ledger team, you will take ownership of the full accounting lifecycle for capitalized software, including Internal Use Software and Cloud Computing Arrangements, while contributing broadly to close processes, financial reporting, and balance sheet integrity. You will work at the intersection of technical accounting and innovation, partnering with Engineering, FP&A, IT, and Finance to ensure transactions are accurately recorded and reported. This is a visible, high-impact role where your expertise shapes not only the numbers but also how AI-assisted automation transforms the controllership function. You will have the opportunity to influence the future of finance operations in a dynamic, remote-first environment.
About the Team
Zoom’s General Ledger team sits within the Finance and Accounting organization, playing a foundational role in maintaining the accuracy and integrity of Zoom’s financial statements. The team operates in a fast-paced, public company environment where precision, collaboration, and continuous improvement are core expectations. We work closely with cross-functional partners across Engineering, FP&A, IT, and Finance to deliver reliable financial reporting and support Zoom’s strategic priorities.
Responsibilities
- Support the accounting lifecycle for Internal Use Software (IUS) and Cloud Computing Arrangements (CCA), including capitalization tracking, project cost coordination, roll forward reconciliation, policy documentation, and journal entries in compliance with ASC 350-40.
- Prepare and post journal entries including accruals, expense allocations, and other adjusting entries with appropriate supporting documentation, leveraging and improving automated processes where possible.
- Maintain and reconcile assigned balance sheet accounts in compliance with US GAAP, investigating and resolving reconciling items in a timely manner.
- Prepare monthly and quarterly variance analyses comparing actuals to prior periods, and partner with FP&A to clearly explain significant P&L and balance sheet fluctuations.
- Support the financial reporting cycle by preparing and assembling reporting packages, including management-level P&L summaries, variance analyses, and supporting schedules.
- Ensure compliance with US GAAP, SOX controls, and company accounting policies through periodic control testing activities that validate the design and operating effectiveness of key controls.
- Contribute to monthly, quarterly, and annual close processes and serve as a key contributor to external and internal audit activities, including preparing PBC schedules and coordinating evidence gathering.
- Collaborate with Finance and IT to evaluate and implement AI-driven tools, automation solutions, and ERP improvements, providing functional accounting expertise and participating in testing and validation activities.
- Identify opportunities to streamline processes, improve data quality, and increase automation across general ledger activities.
What We’re Looking For
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or Finance, or equivalent experience, with 5 or more years of progressive accounting experience including at least 2 years in a public company environment.
- Solid working knowledge of US GAAP with hands-on experience in accrual accounting, cost allocations, and the full month-end, quarter-end, and year-end close cycle.
- Proficiency with ERP systems such as Oracle, SAP, or similar enterprise platforms, combined with advanced Excel skills and comfort working with large data sets and complex reconciliations.
- Experience leveraging AI-powered tools and automation to accelerate day-to-day accounting tasks, with an interest in shaping how technology transforms accounting workflows.
- Proven ability to manage multiple priorities concurrently, meet firm deadlines in a high-volume close environment, and communicate accounting concepts clearly to non-finance stakeholders.
- CPA license or active CPA candidacy, with experience at a public accounting firm supporting public companies (preferred).
- Working knowledge of SOX 404 compliance and ASC 350-40 (Internal Use Software and CCA accounting), ideally with experience supporting engineering or technical teams in a SaaS or technology environment (preferred).
