Rocksteady Studios is an award-winning, critically acclaimed video game developer. Founded in 2004, we are home to the widely celebrated Batman: Arkham series of games. Your New Role…
Rocksteady is looking to add to its family of staff: a Senior Gameplay Programmer to join a team of gameplay coders to deliver world-class AAA videogaming experiences for our players across multiple platforms. The role focuses on creating exciting, emergent gameplay by coordinating combat-related and navigation related NPC behaviours that empower player freedom and choice.
This role is offered on a hybrid basis. You can choose to work from home or in the office on Mondays, Thursdays and Fridays. On Tuesdays and Wednesdays, the team collaborates onsite at Rocksteady Studios in Kentish Town, London.
Your Role Accountabilities…
- Creating, developing, and maintaining gameplay systems and features in C++.
- Producing solutions to large, complex, and sometimes not well-defined gameplay problems.
- Working closely and proactively with Design to come up with fun and engaging gameplay, and informing them of risks and opportunities.
- Providing suggestions and feedback to other members of your team, including via code reviews.
- Being a positive, active, and contributing team member taking broad responsibility for your work.
- Communicating effectively with your Lead, your team, Production and other departments.
- Supporting production processes, including backlog review, task estimation and breakdown, and Jira ticket management.
- Following, and championing development best practices.
Qualifications & Experience…
- Experience developing gameplay systems using C++, including areas such as AI, navigation, and combat systems.
- Understanding of modern gaming platforms and experience developing software for one or more of them.
- Experience contributing to the development and successful delivery of a commercial game title, preferably within a AAA environment.
- Strong game design skills, with the ability to demonstrate your approach through previous work, projects, or portfolio examples.
- Ability to communicate and collaborate effectively with multidisciplinary teams.
- Experience with Unreal Engine 5.
- Familiarity with Rocksteady titles and design philosophies would be advantageous.
