Senior Finance Manager
The Commercial Products and Infrastructure (CPI) org is responsible for driving Microsoft cloud & AI capacity, margin excellence and resource allocation rigor across Microsoft’s portfolio. The AI Applications Revenue and Investments Team brings together revenue management and business planning with investment management and resource allocation in a single organization, providing end-to-end support for M365 and Copilot.
We are looking for a highly motivated Senior Finance Manager to join the Copilot, Agents, and Platform Finance team and help shape how Microsoft invests resources in the priorities and capabilities that power our product roadmap. In this role, you will lead financial modelling and business analysis, partner with Engineering leaders on resource allocation decisions, and own efficient financial processes that bring clarity, rigor, and speed to investment planning.
The role calls for an agile systems thinker who brings intellectual curiosity, sound judgement, a passion for leveraging AI tools to improve insights and productivity, and the ability to navigate ambiguity and complexity to serve as a trusted finance advisor to Engineering leaders.
This role enables you to develop a CFO mindset and influence senior leadership to drive expense management and resource allocation decisions – continuously aligning investments and costs with a prioritized engineering product roadmap and be part of the highly driven team with an emphasis on fun!
Responsibilities
• Decision Support: Apply strategic thinking into FTE headcount resource planning to maximize engineering investments through industry intelligence and benchmarking. Provide deeper insight to enable leadership’s decision on where and how resources should be deployed. Give visibility to the current resource landscape and drive re-deployment discussions. Communicate trade-off scenarios and provide financial analysis for recommendations.
• Business Health and Planning: Lead finance rhythms with business partners (close, forecast, budget). Partner with stakeholders to craft the capacity investment story through business understanding and collaboration. Take a macro-level approach to analyze results, highlighting trends and key levers. Support CFO and Engineering CVP reviews.
• Resource allocation and management: Partner with procurement and business to ensure spend aligns to strategic functional areas. Model and analyze key drivers, identify levers, and drive planning decisions.
Qualifications
Required/minimum qualifications
- Master's Degree in Business Administration, Accounting, Finance, Economics, Data Science or related field AND 2+ years experience in financial analysis, accounting, controllership or finance, or related field OR Bachelor's Degree in Business Administration, Accounting, Finance, Economics, Data Science or related field AND 4+ years experience in financial analysis, accounting, controllership or finance, or related field OR equivalent experience.
Additional or preferred qualifications
- Masters Degree in Business Administration, Accounting, Finance, Economics, Data Science or related field AND 6+ years of post-graduate financial analysis, accounting, controllership, or finance work experience OR Bachelor's degree in Business Administration, Accounting, Finance, Economics, Data Science or related field AND 8+ years of post-graduate financial analysis, accounting, controllership or finance work experience OR equivalent experience.
- 1+ year(s) experience in multinationals with multi-product/multi-segment finance roles.
- 1+ year(s) work experience in matrix-based organization.
- 1+ year(s) work experience in the technology or software industry.
- Driven, self-starter, capable of effectively prioritizing and operating with a high degree of ambiguity in a fast-paced and changing environment.
- Proven ability to partner, build trust, communicate with, and influence senior executives; ability to make the complex simple and influence through effective storytelling.
- Ability to influence and impact without authority, operate in ambiguity, and solve difficult problems, combined with the ability to prioritize and function well in a dynamic and matrixed environment
- Interpersonal and cross group collaboration skills. Ability to drive simplicity within a complex and matrix environment
- Proficiency combining, structuring, and mining large volumes of data from disparate sources using tools such as Power BI, Excel, SQL etc.
- Expert Excel user familiar with advanced functions and charting capabilities
- Experience with Agentic tools (i.e GitHub Copilot), semantic models, or similar enterprise data frameworks is a plus.
Financial Analysis IC4 - The typical base pay range for this role across the U.S. is USD $97,600 - $188,400 per year. There is a different range applicable to specific work locations, within the San Francisco Bay area and New York City metropolitan area, and the base pay range for this role in those locations is USD $125,000 - $206,400 per year.
