Position Summary
The Safety Engineer is responsible for developing, implementing, and continuously improving safety programs supporting Facilities Services operations, construction activities, equipment/tool hookup, building maintenance, and contractor work within semiconductor manufacturing facilities. This position will provide field leadership to identify hazards, prevent incidents, ensure compliance with applicable regulatory and company requirements, and drive accountability for employees and contractors.The Safety Engineer will partner closely with Facilities, Fab Operations, Engineering, contractors, and project teams to establish safe work practices, conduct risk assessments, investigate incidents, and ensure corrective actions are effectively implemented. The role requires a strong field presence, technical judgment, and the ability to influence multiple stakeholders in a fast-paced, high-hazard manufacturing environment.
Role and Responsibilities
Here's What You'll Be Responsible For:
- Develop, implement, and maintain Facilities Services safety programs, standards, procedures, and best practices.
- Conduct field safety inspections, audits, and job observations for Facilities and contractor activities.
- Perform Job Hazard Analyses (JHA/JSA) and risk assessments for construction, maintenance, tool hookup, energized work, lifting/rigging, chemical, electrical, and other high-risk activities.
- Review contractor Safety Plans, Pre-Task Plans(PTPs), work plans, permits, and risk assessments before work begins.
- Establish and enforce safety requirements for contractors working within FAB and facility areas.
- Monitor contractor safety performance and drive corrective actions for deficiencies.
- Lead or support investigation of incidents, near misses, property damage, and safety events, including root-cause analysis and corrective/preventive actions.
- Track corrective actions through completion and verify effectiveness in the field.
- Develop safety metrics and dashboards to identify trends, recurring hazards, and areas requiring management attention.
- Partner with Facilities project managers and engineers to incorporate safety requirements into project planning, design, installation, commissioning, and turnover.
- Provide safety guidance for equipment/tool installation and hookup activities, including mechanical, electrical, gas, utility, and other facility interfaces.
- Support programs involving LOTO, energized work, confined space, fall protection, hot work, lifting/rigging, excavation, electrical safety, and emergency response.
- Conduct contractor and employee safety training and provide field coaching.
- Participate in daily/weekly safety meetings and provide technical safety guidance to management and project teams.
- Develop lessons learned and preventive programs following incidents or recurring safety issues.
- Support emergency preparedness, drills, and response activities.
- Maintain safety documentation, inspection records, training records, incident reports, and compliance documentation.
- Communicate safety risks and recommendations clearly to Facilities leadership and cross-functional stakeholders.
- Promote a proactive safety culture and stop-work authority when unsafe conditions or practices are identified.
- Perform other duties and projects as assigned by Facilities Services leadership.
Skills and Qualifications
Here's What You'll Need:
- Bachelor’s degree in Safety, Occupational Health, Environmental Health & Safety, Industrial Hygiene, Engineering, or a related technical field.
- 5+ years of progressive safety/EHS experience, preferably in semiconductor manufacturing, advanced manufacturing, construction, facilities, or other high-hazard industrial environments.
- Experience managing or overseeing contractor safety programs.
- Experience conducting incident investigations and root-cause analysis.
- Experience developing and implementing safety programs and procedures.
- Experience working in an operating manufacturing facility or construction environment.
- Strong understanding of OSHA requirements and applicable safety standards.
- Ability to work in the field and effectively communicate with technicians, engineers, contractors, project managers, and senior leadership.
The current base salary range for this role is between $106,000 - $145,000. Individual base pay rates will depend on factors including duties, work location, education, skills, qualifications and experience. Total compensation for this position will include a competitive benefits package and may include participation in company incentive compensation programs, which are based on factors to include organizational and individual performance.
