Job Description
The Senior Export Specialist is responsible for strengthening and advancing the company's global export compliance program by ensuring adherence to U.S. export control regulations, sanctions requirements, and internal compliance policies. This position serves as a trusted subject matter expert for export compliance activities, including routed export transactions, denied party screening, export licensing, and forwarder compliance management. Working closely with business stakeholders, logistics providers, legal counsel, and compliance teams, the Senior Export Compliance Specialist drives operational excellence by mitigating compliance risks, enhancing processes and controls, and supporting strategic automation initiatives that improve efficiency and program effectiveness. You will report to the Trade Compliance Manager and have a hybrid schedule working in Milwaukee, WI, Mayfield Heights, OH, or Whitestown, IN.
Your Responsibilities:
- Participate in compliance system enhancements and automation initiatives.
- Maintain export compliance metrics and reporting dashboards.
- Identify compliance gaps and implement corrective actions.
- Establish forwarder compliance expectations and performance standards.
- Support annual and semi-annual encryption reporting obligations.
- Administer daily denied party and sanctions screening activities.
- Investigate and resolve screening matches and escalations.
- Serve as the subject matter expert for routed export transactions.
- Review and approve export transactions for compliance with U.S. export regulations.
- Determine license requirements and support export license applications.
- Review exports for prohibited end uses, end users, and destinations.
The Essentials - You Will Have:
- Bachelor's Degree or Equivalent Years of Relevant Work Experience.
- Legal authorization to work in the U.S. We will not sponsor individuals for employment visas, now or in the future, for this job opening.
The Preferred - You Might Also Have:
- 5+ years of export compliance experience.
- Strong working knowledge of: Export Administration Regulations (EAR) BIS regulations OFAC sanctions programs Foreign Trade Regulations (FTR) AES filing requirements Restricted Party Screening processes
- Experience managing routed export transactions.
- Experience working directly with freight forwarders.
- Strong analytical and investigation skills.
- Advanced Excel and reporting skills.
- Certified Export Specialist (CES).
- Experience with SAP, GTS, Oracle GTM, or similar trade compliance systems.
- Experience managing encryption classifications and reporting.
- Experience developing metrics and compliance dashboards.
