Position Location: This role will be providing ongoing support in the Reno, NV area and can be based anywhere in Sacramento, CA or close proximity to Reno, NV.

As a valued member of the Sales Acceleration Team, the Building Automation Specialist - PLCs Application Engineer plays a pivotal role in driving automation sales success. Working closely with the field sales organization, you will accelerate the adoption of Siemens automation solutions by being assigned to high‑priority sales pursuits and providing both hands‑on and remote technical support throughout the sales lifecycle. This role brings expertise in designing complex automation architectures involving multiple products and technologies, with comprehensive knowledge across multiple automation domains and deep, specialized experience in at least one (e.g. Safety, SCADA, Networking, or Motion Control).

You will also participate actively on a technology “core” team, focusing on a specific area such as Safety, SCADA, Networking, or Motion Control, AI, contributing to product strategy, solution design, and customer engagements in that domain. This role blends deep technical knowledge with customer-facing collaboration, offering a dynamic and rewarding career path at the intersection of engineering and sales.

As an Building Automation Specialist - PLCs Application Engineer, you will:

  • Serve as a technical lead on automation opportunities, guiding customers and sales teams through solution development.
  • Provide application-level support for Siemens automation products (e.g., PLCs, HMIs, SCADA, Drives, Industrial Networks).
  • Conduct discovery meetings with customers to understand project requirements and identify the best-fit solutions.
  • Develop and deliver compelling product demonstrations and proof-of-concept configurations.
  • Create technical documentation such as system architecture diagrams, configuration notes, and BOMs.
  • Applies acquired process, product and/or equipment knowledge based on current industry trends, best practices, performance, price, and functionality.
  • Performs complex hardware and/or software design consultation in accordance with customer/project needs.
  • Works closely with Account Managers and Sales Specialists to achieve sales and market growth.
  • Resolves very complex technical problems to meet customers' needs. Acts as one escalation point for major customer technical issues when on-site issue resolution is required.
  • Supports marketing and knowledge transfer through participation on at least one technology core team.
  • Provides periodic knowledge transfer events with channel partners in coordination with the Channel Account Manager.
  • Supports our channel on opportunities in collaboration with the channel application engineer and sales team.
  • Generates technical collateral such as application notes and examples for reuse by others.

Basic Qualifications:

  • Minimum of 3 years of experience in automation/motion control systems and demonstration of key responsibilities and knowledge as described above.
  • Must possess a valid driver's license with limited violations and minimum age requirement of 18 or older.
  • Verbal and written communication skills in English
  • Legally authorized to work in the United States on a continual and permanent basis without company sponsorship

The pay range for this position is $57,120 - $97,920 annually. The actual wage offered may be lower or higher depending on budget and candidate experience, knowledge, skills, qualifications, and premium geographic location.
