At Sonos, we are passionate about creating the finest HiFi audio systems in the world. Our products stream music wirelessly throughout the home, and we are constantly pushing the boundaries of what is possible in home audio. As a Senior Antenna Engineer, you will be part of the team building the next generation of Sonos in-home WiFi audio solutions. Working across disciplines — software, hardware, acoustics, and wireless technologies — you will own antenna design from concept through high-volume manufacturing and play a meaningful role in delivering exceptional listening experiences to our customers.

What You'll Do

  • Design and simulate multi-band antenna solutions across the full product development cycle using full-wave electromagnetic simulation tools such as CST and HFSS.
  • Build and prototype antennas, and characterize their performance using 3D anechoic chamber, VNA, and spectrum analyzer setups.
  • Partner with cross-functional hardware, mechanical, and systems teams to deliver antenna designs that meet product functional specifications.
  • Provide antenna technical oversight to JDM partners and contract manufacturers — define deliverables and design-of-experiments (DOEs), critically review partner designs and data, and lead root cause analysis when partner results do not correlate with internal measurements.
  • Own antenna vendor selection and qualification against the Sonos approved vendor list, and drive antenna test strategy and yield review through high-volume manufacturing.
  • Support manufacturing teams to ensure high-quality antenna implementation at external production partners.
  • Mentor junior engineers and contribute to the team's simulation and measurement practices and standards.
  • Support EMI troubleshooting efforts and regulatory certification activities.
  • Deliver clear technical presentations on antenna design, trade-offs, and results to cross-functional and senior professional audiences.

What You'll Need

Basic Qualifications

  • Master's degree in Electrical Engineering (MSEE) with 5 or more years of experience in antenna design, or a PhD in Electrical Engineering with a strong background in antenna theory and design.
  • Proficiency with electromagnetic simulation tools, including CST and HFSS.
  • In-depth knowledge of antenna manufacturing technologies and materials.
  • Strong RF and hardware board and system-level troubleshooting skills, including antenna and RF network matching.
  • Experience characterizing antenna and RF subsystems using lab equipment such as a 3D anechoic chamber, vector network analyzer (VNA), and spectrum analyzer (SA).
  • Demonstrated ability to technically direct an external design or manufacturing partner — setting requirements, critically reviewing deliverables, and escalating issues with supporting data.
  • Willingness and ability to travel up to 10% to support JDM partners and manufacturing sites, including international travel to Asia.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.
  • Qualified applicants must be able to work from the office 5 days per week.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Familiarity with radio standards such as 802.11a/b/g/n/ac/ax/be (Wi-Fi 4 through Wi-Fi 7) and Bluetooth/BLE.
  • Experience with RF subsystem design trade-offs, including components such as LNAs and power amplifiers.
  • Knowledge of cost and performance trade-offs in antenna development.
  • Ability to optimize PCB layouts for RF performance, including antenna matching, power supply decoupling, and critical node filtering.
  • Familiarity with international regulatory standards such as FCC, IC, ETSI, SRRC, and MIC.
