Senior Agentic AI Engineer- Physical AI hub, Kitchener
Change the future with us.
We are looking for dedicated and talented people who solve ever-changing challenges, customer needs, and questions from colleagues with clever concepts and creativity. We embrace change and work with curious minds re-inventing the future of work. Join us and let us focus together on what’s truly important: making lives better with new ideas and the latest technology around the world.
About the role:
Are you passionate about building AI systems that reason, monitor, verify, and recover within clear operational boundaries? Do you want to shape how agentic AI is used in industrial robotics without treating the model as an unconstrained decision maker?
We are seeking a Senior Agentic AI Engineer to build the harness reasoning, monitoring, recovery, and completion-gating capabilities for the Physical AI Runtime. This engineer will design bounded agentic loops that assemble context, observe execution, interpret runtime evidence, trigger recovery, and escalate to operators when needed. The work sits inside the trusted execution layer that validates, authorizes, and orchestrates AI-assisted robot action.
What you will do:
- Build bounded agentic workflows for context assembly, monitoring, completion verification, recovery, and escalation.
- Define structured tool interfaces, policies, guardrails, runtime authority boundaries, and audit metadata.
- Implement plan-execute-observe-verify-recover loops that operate on robot-task state and runtime evidence.
- Design recovery behavior with explicit retry limits, fallback paths, operator handover, and traceable decisions.
- Evaluate agent behavior through scenarios, traces, regression tests, failure taxonomies, and acceptance criteria.
- Work with perception, ML systems, QA, orchestration, and platform engineers to connect model reasoning to deterministic runtime contracts.
- Document limitations, failure modes, and operational expectations for agentic behavior in industrial robotics workflows.
What you will bring:
- Bachelor's or Master's degree in Computer Science, Artificial Intelligence, Robotics, Software Engineering, Computer Engineering, or a related field.
- 2+ Strong experience building agentic AI systems, LLM-based applications, planning systems, decision engines, or tool-using AI workflows.
- Strong software engineering skills in Python, TypeScript, or another language used for production services and orchestration.
- Experience with state machines, event-driven systems, workflow engines, task orchestration, tool invocation, or plan-execute-observe loops.
- Ability to constrain AI behavior through policies, contracts, validation steps, structured outputs, tool boundaries, and explicit authority models.
- Experience designing monitoring and recovery behavior, including retries, fallback paths, exception handling, completion verification, and human handover.
- Understanding of evaluation methods for agentic systems, including scenario tests, regression suites, trace review, failure taxonomies, and behavioral acceptance criteria.
- Ability to work with perception signals, runtime state, skill results, traces, and operator feedback as evidence for decisions.
- Strong communication skills for explaining model behavior, uncertainty, limits, and safety-relevant trade-offs to engineering and product stakeholders.
What sets you apart:
- Experience with robotics, automation, physical-world AI, or systems where AI decisions affect machines, workflows, or operators.
- Experience with ReAct-style patterns, structured tool calling, retrieval, context engineering, VLM/VLA integration, or multimodal agent workflows.
- Knowledge of safety-envelope reasoning, policy enforcement, runtime guardrails, or validation layers.
- Experience building agent observability, prompt and policy regression tests, trace inspection tooling, or evaluation dashboards.
- Familiarity with operator handover workflows, human-in-the-loop review, and escalation paths.
- Ability to design recovery behavior that is bounded, auditable, and testable.
- Strong judgment about what should be agentic and what should remain deterministic software.
Work environment:
- This role is primarily software focused, with regular collaboration around real robot-cell data, traces, perception evidence, and integration tests.
- Hybrid work is supported, with on-site presence expected for workflow validation, failure analysis, and cross-team integration sessions.
Why join us?
