What you'll do

Join a team that keeps mission-critical space communications running. As a Field Service Engineer, you'll perform hands-on installation, maintenance, and troubleshooting of advanced ground systems that support space operations around the globe. Your work will directly contribute to the success of cutting-edge satellite communications technology, ensuring customers stay connected when it matters most.

The day-to-day

This position is a result of our strong business growth and pioneering of high bandwidth SATCOM solutions for commercial, government and military applications. You will be responsible for providing technical support for our SATCOM earth station customers around the world. Your excellent skills will come into play as you interface directly with the customer, while your ability to work independently to identify the root cause of problems and implement solutions enable customers to operate their system with minimal down time.  You will also coordinate with the engineering team at our headquarters for the prompt resolution of any issues encountered to support customer requirements.

The ideal candidate should have previous military or DoD support experience in the field of satellite communications, radar service and repair, or RF communications.

What you'll need

• 5 years of field-related experience.
• Aptitude to lead technical resolution while performing emergency restoral actions on ground station equipment, including: ACUs, Up converters, Down converters, HPA’s, fiber optic subsystems, LNA/LNB’s, antennas, Baseband and IP equipment (modems, multiplexers, DVB, Broadband platforms).
• Direct experience repairing and installing satellite earth stations
• Proficiency in using various types of RF and IP test equipment (spectrum analyzers, OTDRs, Multimeter)
• Self-motivated with the internal drive and initiative to begin and continue tasks without external stimulus.
• Capable of quickly adapting to new and dynamic situations in diverse environments
• Proficiency in providing remote technical assistance and working independently to quickly identify root cause and formulating temporary and/or long-term solutions.
• Ability to handle working long hours in stressful work environments until successfully resolving customer issues.
• Experience installing, configuring, and troubleshooting LAN and other IP equipment on customer sites.
• Microsoft Office suite experience (Word, Excel, PowerPoint).
• Competency to develop and execute test plans and draft test reports.
• Ability to demonstrate problem-solving skills, an analytical mindset, and strong communication skills.
• Bachelor's Degree in a technical discipline or associate degree plus equivalent work experience.
• US citizenship is required for this position.
• Possession of Active Secret clearance or ability to obtain one.
• Capability to be on-call after hours for up to 30%.
• Ability to travel up to 50%, including internationally.
• Possession of an active US passport or ability to obtain one within six months of start date.
• Ability to pass skills testing for grip and static strength, dynamic lifting and work/positional tolerances.
• Capability to work at heights and confined spaces.

What will help you on the job

• 1+ years of experience with Viasat specific products (AC4100, AC4100+, VTR-4100, VTR-5100, and VHR modem product line)
• Advanced analytical skills to troubleshoot problems to the root cause and to implement short- and long-term solutions.
• Ability to work under pressure and to communicate effectively directly with customers.
• Experience working in Sales Force, ServiceNow or other Ticketing and Workflow tools.
• Top Secret Clearance with SCI eligibility

Salary range

$82,000.00 - $129,500.00 / annually. For specific work locations within San Jose, the San Francisco Bay area and New York City metropolitan area, the base pay range for this role is $102,000.00- $153,000.00/ annually
