Sqills, part of Siemens Mobility Business Unit Software, is a leading technology company focused on providing innovative solutions for the public transport industry. With a commitment to excellence, we are dedicated to improving the passenger experience and increasing the operational efficiency for our clients across the globe.

We are operating a Software Development Center in Aveiro, targeting Intelligent Solutions for the future of Mobility. We want you to join our team in the capacity of: Rust Developer (m/f/d).

As a DevOps team, we determine travel options and calculate prices in milliseconds to ensure customers get from point A to point Z in the best way possible. We use Rust to keep our systems fast and reliable. The team consists of 8 people based across the Netherlands and Portugal. Our teams have the freedom to choose the languages and tools they work with. Currently, we run a Rust backend paired with a React frontend, deployed on Kubernetes. Source control and CI/CD is hosted on GitLab. We monitor production services using OpenTelemetry, New Relic, and PagerDuty. We value initiative and encourage you to use your freedom to refine our components, tooling, and overall ways of working across the company. Secure development, architecture, performance, and resiliency are the cornerstones common to the different teams. This ensures that our software will continue to meet and exceed expectations in the future.

What will you do?

Along with the rest of the DevOps teams, you work on the software used to find & book seats in trains and buses of major international brands. The work here is multifaceted: one moment you are deep in the code optimizing the processing of many asynchronous requests for a high availability/high performance component. The next moment, you are building a management (web) interface for configuring the pricing system. We are always looking to improve our code, with an emphasis on performance, reliability, and quality. We share all workloads within the team and try to make the best use of everyone's strengths.
