R&D Software Operating Manager - Eggplant Server

Keysight Eggplant helps businesses to test, monitor and analyze their end-to-end customer experience across different interfaces, platforms, browsers, and devices — including mobile, IoT, and desktop — in agile, DevOps, and innovative application and data environments. Eggplant’s customers use Eggplant suites to assure the quality of their applications through UI test automation.  The Eggplant Server team maintains Eggplant’s server product, allowing customers to connect to remote systems, schedule and run tests at scale, and analyze the results. 

This is an opportunity to lead engineering team in a fun and challenging environment working on the latest generation of our application offerings. We are seeking R&D Software Operating Manager with strong full stack software development experience and team leadership experience who is passionate about creating world-class software. The successful candidate will be responsible for leading and supporting the Eggplant Server team in the Singapore office. You will work directly with the Product Management team to agree the scope of work undertaken, provide advice on the technical decisions and direction of the teams, and drive their delivery. 

Responsibilities include:                                           

• Ensuring that the team deliver amazing products that delight customers, efficiently, with high quality, and with an appropriate level of predictability and transparency 

• Motivating the team’s curiosity, design and delivery of product enhancements and new innovative solutions.  
• Act as the team’s scrum master and agile coach. 
• Through professional growth, mentoring, performance management, and/or hiring, build a team of high-performance developers, quality engineers, product owners and UX designers who embody your same passion for rapid incrementalism with sustained and repeated delivery.  
• Work together with your leadership peers to surface dependencies and coordinate work to maximize the overall success of the Eggplant Server organization.  
• With the agile mindset as your guide, instil a sense of true product ownership in your team.  
• Work with your Product Owner to underpin a challenging, yet realistic, product roadmap for your team. Then, earn the trust of your stakeholders by consistently delivering.   
• Build the brand of your team through complete transparency and effective communication, both vertically and horizontally throughout the organization.
   

To accomplish the Responsibilities laid out above the R&D Software Operating Manager is expected to perform the following duties:

• Working with the Product Owner to ensure the Backlogs are appropriately refined in order to create Product Roadmaps that are achievable, will delight customers and will meet Eggplant’s strategic objectives 

• Provide level of effort estimates for feature requests and technical debt improvements with support from the Technical Leads 

• Work with the Product Owner to ensure the team backlogs are refined appropriately 

• Ensure sprint plans are adjusted appropriately in response to urgent, customer affecting issues prioritised by the Product Onwner 

• Ensure teams' velocity is tracked to aid planning 

• Assess risk of release/deployment and discuss with Product Owner 

• Host team daily standup meeting and sprint retrospective meetings 

You should be self-motivated and have a proven track record of leading teams developing complex software with a strong background in software engineering principles. A proactive and energetic person with a desire to contribute collaboratively to the development of the team and the company. Excellent interpersonal, verbal and written communication skills.  

Basic Qualifications: 

• Bachelors or Master or University Degree or equivalent plus directly relevant experience as a manager, supervisor and/or individual contributor  

• Five years of experience managing a team 

Specific requirements include:

• A deep understanding of Software Engineering gained through relevant experience 

• Excellent knowledge of OOP, microservices, design patterns and coding best practices  
• Experienced with integrating AI into the software development lifecycle. 

• Excellent design and problem-solving skills  

• Experience in software architecture  

• Solid knowledge of Agile, Lean and XP development practices  

• Experience of mentoring and coaching 

• Experience in Eggplant Test software is an added advantage 

Bonus Skills: 

• Experience working in product teams that build commercial of the shelf (COTS) software for the enterprise market. 

• Experience using Jenkins or Gitlab for build pipelines  

• Docker container development  

• Experience of continuous delivery  

• Experience with other cloud platforms (Azure or Google Cloud Platform)
