
R&D Software Engineer – RF Test & Measurement
We are seeking a talented Software Engineer to join Keysight's RF Test & Measurement R&D organization in Kobe, Japan.
In this role, you will contribute to the development of industry-leading RF and microwave instrumentation platforms. You will have opportunities to support multiple measurement products across the organization.
This position provides broad technical exposure across software architecture, user interfaces, hardware control, FPGA-integrated systems, automation, and instrument platform technologies. You will collaborate with global engineering teams across multiple sites and disciplines to deliver innovative solutions that help customers solve challenging measurement problems in communications, aerospace and defense, semiconductor, and emerging technology markets.
This position is based in Kobe, Japan. The successful candidate will work as part of a local engineering team in a Japanese-speaking environment while collaborating closely with global R&D organizations across multiple sites. Native-level or fluent proficiency in Japanese and professional proficiency in English are required.

Responsibilities- Design, implement, test, and maintain software solutions for RF test and measurement products.
- Develop features across multiple layers of the system, including user interfaces, application software, instrument control, and hardware interaction.
- Collaborate with FPGA, hardware, system, manufacturing, and quality engineering teams to deliver robust product solutions.
- Participate in architecture discussions and contribute to technical decision-making for platform and product development.
- Troubleshoot and resolve complex system-level issues involving software, hardware, and embedded technologies.
- Develop and maintain automation tools, validation frameworks, and diagnostic utilities.
- Partner with engineering teams across multiple global sites to execute development plans and deliver high-quality product releases.
- Continuously improve software quality, engineering processes, and development productivity by adopting modern development practices and AI-assisted engineering workflows.
- Create and maintain technical documentation and share knowledge across teams.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor's or Master's degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or a related discipline.
- Strong software development experience using modern C++, C#, or similar programming languages.
- Strong understanding of software engineering fundamentals, including object-oriented design, functional programming concepts, abstraction, modularity, concurrency, design patterns, and maintainable software architecture.
- Demonstrated ability to design scalable, maintainable, and testable software systems using sound architectural and engineering principles.
- Experience designing, implementing, and debugging complex software systems.
- Familiarity with software development tools, version control systems, and collaborative engineering practices.
- Strong analytical, troubleshooting, and problem-solving skills.
- Ability to work effectively in cross-functional and geographically distributed engineering teams.
- Native-level or fluent proficiency in Japanese.
- Professional proficiency in English with the ability to communicate complex technical concepts and collaborate effectively with globally distributed engineering teams.
- Ability to work onsite in Kobe, Japan as a member of a local engineering team.
Preferred Qualifications
- Understanding of RF, microwave, wireless communication, or electronic test and measurement concepts.
- Experience developing software for instrumentation or hardware-integrated systems.
- Experience with hardware control, device communication protocols, embedded systems, or real-time software.
- Familiarity with FPGA-based systems and hardware/software integration.
- Experience with Windows desktop application development.
- Experience with Python and software test automation frameworks.
- Experience utilizing AI-assisted software development tools and workflows, such as Claude Code, GitHub Copilot, Microsoft Copilot, large language models, or similar technologies.
- Demonstrated ability to effectively integrate AI-assisted development practices into software engineering workflows, including design, implementation, testing, debugging, and documentation activities.
- Demonstrated ability to work across multiple technical domains, including application software, user interfaces, hardware control, FPGA-integrated systems, and RF test and measurement technologies.
- Intellectual curiosity and willingness to learn technologies outside one's primary area of expertise.
