What you'll doThe Quality Technician provides support for product and process quality activities throughout the manufacturing lifecycle. This role is responsible for conducting inspection of production products and component parts, assisting in the management of nonconforming material, and helping to ensure Viasat’s products meet customer, regulatory, and organizational requirements. This role works closely with Inspection, Manufacturing, Engineering, Supply Chain, and Production teams to drive compliance, product quality, and continuous improvement initiatives.
In this role, you will:
- Inspect various electrical/electronic, electromechanical, & mechanical components and assemblies for compliance with applicable specifications and standards within the Receiving Inspection and In-Process & Final Production Inspection processes.
- Utilize various measurement tools, gages, & instruments in the course of inspection including microscopy & photographic equipment to help detail nonconforming conditions.
- Review & interpret drawings, specifications, work orders, & manufacturing process documentation to verify product compliance.
- Create inspection records & nonconformance reports.
- Interface with supply chain, production, & engineering personnel to communicate nonconformances, resolve constraints & seek guidance.
- Participate in the Material Review Board (MRB) process providing support the MRB Coordinator to facilitate the flow of nonconforming articles throughout the process including reviewing nonconformances, making disposition recommendations, reviewing rework orders and closing nonconformance reports.
- Review traveler work plans, provide & facilitate feedback, & recommend approvals.
- Support hardware closeout activities including creating End-item Data Packages (EIDP).
- Interface with Quality Engineers and cross-functional teams to achieve quality and operational objectives.
- Provide tactical support to Program Quality Engineers as required.
- Occasionally travel to other local area Viasat facilities to conduct inspections and provide support as required.
Inspecting various electrical/electronic, electromechanical, & mechanical components and assemblies for compliance with applicable specifications and standards within Receiving and Production environments utilizing a variety of tools, gages, & instruments.
Maintaining strong teamwork the inspection teams to coordinate inspections daily. Work with engineering & other cross-functional teams on a variety of tasks & initiatives. Help coordinate the processing of nonconforming material.
What you'll need- Associate’s degree in a technical discipline and/or a minimum of 6 years of relevant experience in quality, manufacturing, aerospace, defense, electronics or other related technical field in lieu of a degree.
- Industry experience as an electrical/electronic and/or mechanical inspector.
- Ability to read & interpret drawings, specifications, manufacturing documentation, & standards with little or no assistance.
- Advanced utilization experience of inspection equipment, gages, & inspection techniques.
- Good judgment & discernment skills of acceptable & rejectable conditions.
- Strong computer skills in MS & other business platforms to complete tasks independently.
- Current IPC certification or the ability to acquire & maintain IPC-A-610, J-STD-001 & IPC/WHMA-A-620 CIS certification.
- The ability to communicate clearly & concisely both verbally & in writing.
- Personal initiative, the ability to set a positive example, and provide leadership when needed.
- Local/regional travel may be required – up to 10%.
- Government position – U.S. citizenship required.
- Dayshift hours (flexible start time) 5-day/week.
- Occasional weekends/overtime consistent with business needs.
- Basic GD&T experience in accordance with ASME Y14.5 desirable.
- Current CIS certification to IPC-A-610, J-STD-001, IPC/WHMA-A-620 desirable.
- Familiarity with AS9100 Quality Management Systems.
$24.28 - $38.46 / hourly. For specific work locations within San Jose, the San Francisco Bay area and New York City metropolitan area, the base pay range for this role is $30.29 - $45.19/ hourly
