Quality Engineer, Module
Description
Tesla is looking for an experienced Quality Engineer for our Module production lines in Tilburg. In this role you will be responsible for the quality of the incoming parts, the process, and the final product. You will partner with Design, Supply Chain, Manufacturing, Equipment, Process, Production, and Service to develop production processes that make high-quality products meeting the expectations of our internal and external customers.
You will also own quality for new and modified module lines — from process risk assessment and measurement system validation through run-at-rate, capability sign-off, and the transition into stable, sustained production. The Quality Engineer is a professional problem solver who makes strong use of quality techniques (Six Sigma, advanced statistics, APQP, data visualization) to resolve quality challenges and build reliable processes that prevent defects from being created in the first place.
Responsibilities
- Own the quality of module parts leaving the production line, making educated disposition decisions on product and supporting cross-functional teams in delivering key quality and production KPIs
- Lead quality validation of new and modified module lines — process risk assessment, measurement system analysis (Gage R&R), first article and PPAP review, run-at-rate, and process capability sign-off prior to release to full-rate production
- Develop manufacturing requirements, quality standards, control plans, and product quality plans, and deploy manufacturing-level requirements down to subsystems, assemblies, and components
- Identify critical-to-quality characteristics to ensure proper supplier and production focus, and lead development of Design and Process FMEAs to identify and address critical risks
- Support development of manufacturing equipment, controls, inspection methods, and test plans that address the risks identified in FMEA, including laser weld, dispensing/potting, and vision inspection quality criteria
- Drive containment, root cause analysis, and permanent corrective action for quality escapes and line defects using structured methodologies (8D, DMAIC, Ishikawa, 5 Whys), and close the loop with suppliers and Design
- Perform process capability analyses and SPC deployment to assess and monitor the ability of suppliers and production processes to meet defined specifications
- Participate in design reviews to assure subsystem quality, manufacturability, and reliability, and support statistical tolerancing, Monte Carlo analysis, and other methods to investigate the effects of part and process variability on system performance
Requirements
- Bachelor's degree in Engineering, or equivalent experience
- 3+ years of quality engineering experience in a high-volume manufacturing environment; battery module, pack, or cell manufacturing strongly preferred, with adjacent industries such as EV powertrain, energy storage, automotive, or electronics manufacturing equally welcome
- Specific training and demonstrated success applying design-for-quality and problem-solving methodologies — FMEA, control plans, process capability analysis, MSA/Gage R&R, hypothesis testing, DoE, SPC, 8D
- Experience supporting new equipment or line launches through validation, qualification, run-at-rate, or PPAP into stable production
- Strong background applying statistical methods, with Minitab, JMP, or equivalent statistical software capability
- Data mining and database experience (e.g. SQL/MySQL), and the ability to build clear data visualizations and reporting from production data
- Working knowledge of GD&T, inspection and metrology methods, and the ability to interpret engineering drawings and specifications
- Excellent oral, written, and presentation skills in English, with willingness to work shifts and weekends as determined by production and project needs
