What you'll do

The Quality Assurance Specialist, Early Career supports product and process quality activities throughout the manufacturing lifecycle. This entry-level position is responsible for executing quality processes, managing nonconforming material, supporting corrective action investigations, and ensuring products meet customer, regulatory, and organizational requirements. The role collaborates closely with Manufacturing, Engineering, Supply Chain, and Production teams to drive compliance, product quality, and continuous improvement initiatives.

The day-to-day

In this role, you will:

  • Execute quality assurance activities in accordance with quality plans, procedures, work instructions, and regulatory requirements.
  • Create, document, and manage Nonconformance Reports (NCRs) for identified product and process discrepancies.
  • Support Root Cause Corrective Action (RCCA) investigations and the implementation of Corrective Action Requests (CARs).
  • Participate in Material Review Board (MRB) and Failure Review Board (FRB) activities to evaluate and disposition nonconforming material.
  • Review and interpret engineering drawings, specifications, work orders, and manufacturing documentation to verify product compliance.
  • Perform quality inspections and verification activities as required.
  • Monitor product quality metrics and communicate emerging quality trends and risks to management.
  • Support hardware closeout activities and ensure the completeness and accuracy of quality records and manufacturing documentation.
  • Assist in identifying product and process risks and proactively escalate quality concerns.
  • Collaborate with Quality Engineers and cross-functional teams to achieve quality and operational objectives.
  • Support internal audits, customer audits, and continuous improvement initiatives.
  • Maintain compliance with applicable quality management system requirements and organizational procedures.
  • Develop foundational knowledge of quality engineering principles, quality systems, and regulatory requirements within a highly regulated manufacturing environment.

Additional Details

  • This position is site-based. Site‑based employees work 3+ days (60%+) per week from a Viasat office or work location within a standard five‑day work week. Viasat embraces a flexible work environment and onsite/hybrid work is determined by individual roles and teams. Relocation assistance may be available pending eligibility.
What you'll need
  • Education: Completion of Bachelor's degree or higher in Engineering, Quality, Manufacturing, Industrial Technology, or a related technical discipline or 6 years of equivalent, relevant professional experience.
  • Citizenship: This position requires U.S. Citizenship.
  • Clearance: This position requires ability to obtain and maintain a United States Secret Clearance.
  • Additional:
    • Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings, specifications, and manufacturing documentation.
    • Understanding of quality assurance fundamentals, including inspections, nonconformance management, and corrective actions.
    • Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, Word, PowerPoint, Outlook).
    • Familiarity with manufacturing and business systems such as Solumina, Oracle, Jira, Agile PLM, and Tableau.
    • Strong attention to detail with excellent organizational and documentation skills.
    • Effective verbal and written communication skills.
    • Ability to work independently while effectively collaborating within a team environment.
    • Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities.
What will help you on the job
  • Experience in aerospace, defense, space, aviation, electronics, medical device, or other highly regulated manufacturing environments.
  • Familiarity with AS9100 Quality Management Systems.
  • Working knowledge of industry standards and requirements, including:
  • Exposure to mission assurance processes and configuration-controlled environments.
  • Understanding of Lean Manufacturing and Continuous Improvement methodologies.
  • Experience supporting audits, quality reviews, and compliance activities.
Salary range

$53,000.00 - $83,500.00 / annually. For specific work locations within San Jose, the San Francisco Bay area and New York City metropolitan area, the base pay range for this role is $65,500.00- $98,500.00/ annually
