Job Description – Proposal Engineer (GIS)
Key Roles & Responsibilities
Proposal Management
• Review customer RFQs, tender specifications, BOQs, and technical documents.
• Analyze customer requirements and propose the suitable GIS solution.
• Prepare complete techno-commercial proposals within specified timelines.
• Prepare technical clarifications statements, deviation lists, and bid documents.
• Coordinate internal approvals and bid submission activities.
• Support bid clarification meetings and customer technical discussions.
• Sales & Customer responsiveness and support effectiveness.
Technical Evaluation
• Study single-line diagrams (SLDs), layouts, equipment schedules, and customer specifications.
• Evaluate project requirements and prepare optimized technical solutions.
• Ensure compliance with IEC standards.
• Coordinate with engineering teams / R&D / Product care teams for technical solution development.
• Identify technical risks and provide mitigation recommendations.
Cost Estimation & Pricing
• Prepare detailed cost estimates for GIS equipment, accessories, control and protection interfaces, erection, testing, commissioning, and associated services.
• Develop accurate costing models by coordinating with engineering, procurement, logistics, and manufacturing teams.
• Ensure pricing competitiveness while maintaining targeted profit margins.
Tendering & Commercial Support
• Perform detailed review of contractual and commercial conditions.
• Assess risks related to payment terms, liquidated damages, warranties, taxes, and delivery schedules.
• Assist sales teams during customer technical discussions & negotiations.
• Ensure accuracy and completeness of tender documentation.
Cross-Functional Coordination
• Work closely with Sales, Engineering, Procurement, Manufacturing, Quality teams.
• Coordinate with factories and PLMs for technical inputs.
• Get Offers from Vendors and suppliers to obtain quotations and cost backups.
Market & Business Analysis
• Monitor market trends, competitor offerings, and pricing strategies.
• Evaluate cost reduction opportunities and value-engineering options.
• Support strategic initiatives to improve bid success rates and profitability.
• Develop benchmarking data for future tendering activities.
• Capture lessons learned and incorporated them into future proposals.
Qualifications & Industry Experience
• Bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering.
• 5-8 years’ experience in Gas Insulated Switchgear (GIS) Proposals / Order Management / Engineering
