What you'll do

Join our Engineering team and help support the delivery of engineering solutions across our Hybrid Platforms organization. As a Project Engineer, you will contribute to projects involving fiber connectivity, network engineering, compute infrastructure, automation platforms, and physical deployments. This role is ideal for an early-career engineer with foundational technical knowledge who enjoys learning across multiple technology domains while supporting project execution and operational activities.

This is a site‑based role, employees work 3+ days (60%+) per week from a Viasat office or work location within a standard five‑day workweek.

The day-to-day

What’s the day-to-day like for this candidate?

  • Support hardware platform evaluations by assisting with lab testing, documenting results, and tracking findings for review by senior engineers.
  • Assist in developing technical specifications and deployment requirements under the guidance of domain experts.
  • Help gather and organize information used in site readiness assessments for infrastructure deployments.
  • Support analysis of capacity data and asset inventories for refresh and lifecycle planning activities.
  • Assist with troubleshooting activities related to hardware, software, or deployment integration issues.
  • Research vendor products and technical solutions and contribute to comparison analyses evaluating cost, capabilities, and operational requirements.
  • Participate in design reviews and project meetings to gain knowledge of engineering processes and standards.
  • Coordinate project activities with engineering, deployment, operations, and sourcing teams to help ensure deliverables are completed on schedule.
  • Maintain project documentation, action-item tracking, and status updates using established processes and tools.
  • Work with domain leads and project stakeholders to document technical requirements and support project execution.
What you'll need
  • A minimum of 1-3 years of experience in project engineering, systems engineering, infrastructure operations, technical support, or a related technical field.
  • Foundational understanding of networking, server hardware, cloud platforms, security concepts, or infrastructure deployments.
  • A BS in Electrical Engineering, Computer Science, Systems Engineering, or a related technical discipline is preferred.
  • Ability to manage assigned tasks and priorities while working on multiple projects.
  • Willingness to learn technical concepts across several infrastructure domains.
  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
  • Ability to follow established procedures and apply good judgment when resolving routine issues.
  • Effective communication skills and the ability to collaborate with technical and non-technical stakeholders.
  • Analytical problem-solving skills and a desire to develop technical expertise.
What will help you on the job
  • Exposure to infrastructure operations, telecommunications, networking, or cloud environments.
  • Experience using Jira, Confluence, or similar project tracking and documentation tools.
  • Familiarity with hardware lifecycle management, inventory management, or deployment activities.
  • Interest in learning about large-scale infrastructure and global deployment operations.
  • Ability to work effectively in a team environment while seeking guidance when needed.
  • Curiosity and enthusiasm for learning new technologies, tools, and processes.
Salary range

$95,000.00 - $149,500.00 / annually. For specific work locations within San Jose, the San Francisco Bay area and New York City metropolitan area, the base pay range for this role is $117,500.00- $176,500.00/ annually
