Description

As a senior test automation engineer with deep expertise in cloud networking and software test engineering, you will design and build a test automation platform that enables developers to write end to end functional tests for the virtual networking layer of Apple's private cloud platforms. This role requires hands on platform engineering combined with direct ownership of test strategy, spending roughly half your time building automation infrastructure and the other half authoring test plans and implementing test cases against the virtual networking stack.

Responsibilities

• Design, build, and maintain a scalable test automation platform that allows developers across teams to write, run, and debug end to end functional tests for virtual networking components (VPCs, overlays, gateways, service meshes, load balancers, firewalls, NATs).
• Develop comprehensive test plans covering functional, regression, and edge case scenarios for the virtual networking layer, and implement the corresponding automated test cases.
• Define standard methodologies for test coverage, test data management, and CI/CD integration of the automation platform.
• Partner closely with cross-functional teams including cloud network engineers, SREs, and platform architects to align test coverage with evolving networking features and architecture
• Triage test failures, drive root cause analysis, and work with development teams to resolve defects found through automated testing.
• Build tooling for test result reporting, observability, and flaky test detection to improve platform reliability and developer trust in the automation suite.
• Present and defend engineering proposals for automation architecture and test strategy that can significantly influence team and organizational success.
• Maintain clear documentation for the automation platform, test frameworks, and test plans to support adoption by other developer teams.

Minimum Qualifications

• 8-12 years of relevant industry experience in test automation or software engineering
• Prior experience building developer-facing testing tools or platforms
• Experience with scale, performance and resiliency testing in networked/cloud environments
• Bachelor's or Master's degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, or a related field.

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience designing and building test automation frameworks or platforms, ideally supporting end to end or functional testing at scale
• Solid understanding of cloud-native networking components: VPCs, peering, transit gateways, service meshes, NATs, firewalls, etc.
• Hands-on experience writing test plans and implementing automated test cases (unit, integration, or end to end)
• Proficiency in one or more programming languages commonly used for test automation (Go, Python)
• Working knowledge of API design and interface technologies (JSON, ProtoBuf, REST, RPC, XML, etc.)
• Experience with Kubernetes, OpenStack, system virtualization, and infrastructure as code
• Strong communication skills with the ability to articulate test strategy, designs, and results to both technical and non-technical audiences
• Familiarity with observability systems (metrics, logging, tracing) as they relate to test validation and debugging
• Working knowledge of networking solutions across OSI layers 3 through 7
