Process Technician, Optimus
Description
Tesla’s Optimus program is building the world’s most advanced humanoid robot. Within Optimus Data Collection Operations, Process Technicians own the definition, standardization, and long-term sustainment of the processes, systems, and work standards that keep hardware build, deployment, troubleshooting, and field support running at scale.
This role sits alongside Equipment Technicians (hands-on build, repair, and line support) and Equipment Technician Supervisors. Process Technicians are the systems owners: they turn tribal knowledge into documented, trainable, measurable processes; keep SOPs, work instructions, and tracking tools current; drive continuous improvement; and ensure every shift executes the same high bar for quality, safety, and throughput.
We are looking for a highly organized, detail-oriented technician who thrives in a fast-paced prototype-to-production environment, can partner cross-functionally with Engineering, Production, and Maintenance, and is motivated to build the operational backbone of Optimus data collection.
Schedule: 8:00AM - 4:30PM; Monday - Friday
Responsibilities
- Define, document, and sustain end-to-end processes for Optimus equipment operations including hardware assembly/build flows, harness build and inspection, equipment prep and deployment, troubleshooting workflows
- Create, revise, and control standard operating procedures (SOPs), work instructions, checklists, and visual standards so technicians can execute consistently across shifts and sites
- Own process change control: capture process/equipment/configuration changes, update documentation and training materials, and ensure the floor is operating to the latest released standard
- Partner with Equipment Technicians and Supervisors to identify process gaps, bottlenecks, and failure modes; lead structured problem-solving (5-Why, fishbone, A3/8D-style) and implement durable corrective and preventive actions
- Develop and maintain systems that improve visibility and control issue tracking, build/config status, spare parts and tooling readiness, preventive maintenance task lists, and KPI dashboards (quality, first-pass yield, downtime, turnaround time, scrap)
Requirements
- 2+ years of experience in a manufacturing, production, test, automation, or high-mix hardware operations environment (automotive, robotics, electronics, medical device, or similar preferred)
- Demonstrated experience writing and sustaining SOPs, work instructions, process maps, or manufacturing documentation that others successfully execute to
- Strong process mindset: ability to observe floor operations, extract best practices, standardize them, and drive adoption across teams and shifts
- Hands-on technical aptitude with electromechanical systems comfortable reading work instructions, basic drawings/schematics, and participating in troubleshooting alongside Equipment Technicians
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills; able to train peers and partner with Engineering, Production, and leadership
