Process Engineer 4
About the role:
Lam Research is seeking a highly motivated Metrology Process Engineer 4 (PE4) or an exceptional new college graduate for a Metrology Process Engineer 3 (PE3) position to join the Corporate Metrology Lab. This role focuses on advanced 3D Tomography (3DT), 3D reconstruction, image processing, and ToF-SIMS characterization, supporting the development and deployment of next-generation metrology solutions for advanced semiconductor devices. The selected candidate will work closely with leading technologists, researchers, and cross-functional engineering teams to develop innovative characterization methodologies, data analysis workflows, and application solutions.
Key Responsibilities:
Technical & Analytical
- Develop and support metrology applications, with a focus on FIB-SEM based technologies.
- Develop and support metrology applications on FIB ToF-SIMS technologies.
- Apply Statistical Process Control (SPC) and Design of Experiments (DOE) methodologies to monitor and improve metrology performance.
Project & Asset Management
- Lead major phases of metrology lab development projects.
- Track and evaluate key metrology assets using SPC tools.
- Manage vendor relationships and escalate issues effectively.
Leadership & Collaboration
- Mentor and guide junior engineers and technicians.
- Collaborate across diverse teams in a matrixed environment.
- Communicate clearly with internal stakeholders and external partners to align on goals and deliverables.
Qualifications:
- BS, MS, or PhD in Physics, Chemistry, Materials Science, or Electrical Engineering. PhD preferred.
- 5-8 years of experience in metrology or materials characterization, especially in FIB, SEM/TEM, Tof-SIMS, AFM, Image processing analysis.
- Strong organizational and multitasking abilities.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Demonstrated ability to work independently and proactively.
- Solid understanding of SPC and DOE methodologies.
- Customer-focused mindset with a collaborative approach.
- Experience with data analytics, Python, and AI tools is highly preferred.

Lam offers a variety of work location models based on the needs of each role. Our hybrid roles combine the benefits of on-site collaboration with colleagues and the flexibility to work remotely and fall into two categories – On-site Flex and Virtual Flex. ‘On-site Flex’ you’ll work 3+ days per week on-site at a Lam or customer/supplier location, with the opportunity to work remotely for the balance of the week. ‘Virtual Flex’ you’ll work 1-2 days per week on-site at a Lam or customer/supplier location, and remotely the rest of the time.
Salary
CA San Francisco Bay Area Salary Range for this position: $104,000.00 - $231,000.00.
The above salary range for this position is relevant to applicants that reside or work onsite in the California, San Francisco Bay Area only. Salary offers will depend on factors that include the location you work from, your level, education, training, specific skills, years of experience and comparison to other employees already in this role. Actual salary may vary from salary offered due to numerous factors including but not limited to unpaid time off, unpaid leave, company mandated shutdown, and other relevant factors.
