Principal Technical Program Manager, Ring Video Platform

The Ring Video Platform Team innovates in the video streaming space for Ring cameras. We are passionate about helping customers see what matters at home, whenever they need to. Every day, millions of Ring devices stream, record and process video through services we build and operate. At that scale we hold ourselves to a high bar for reliability, latency, video quality and privacy.

We're looking for a Principal Technical Program Manager to set how our organization plans and delivers its most critical, multi-year initiatives across cloud services, device firmware and mobile apps. You'll partner with senior engineering leaders, programs will escalate to you, and you'll present complex decisions and trade-offs clearly to leaders up to the executive level. You won't be writing production code. You will be expected to read architectures, data and code, with AI help, well enough to tell when a plan, estimate or status is technically wrong, and to test technical trade-offs with evidence.

At Ring, TPMs operate with AI-native fluency: AI tools are a core part of how you plan, execute, communicate and deliver. As a Principal TPM, you'll set the AI-native standards for how programs are run across the organization, decide which tools get built, extended or retired, and define the bar AI-generated output must meet before anyone acts on it. AI fluency that doesn't improve customer outcomes is not enough. You own every output you ship, AI-assisted or not.

Key job responsibilities
  • Program Strategy: Set the program execution vision for Video Platform and own the multi-year strategy for its most critical cross-org initiatives, balancing new customer experiences with reliability, privacy, security and cost.
  • Portfolio Direction: Own portfolio-level decisions. Greenlight or stop work against clear success metrics, and build the case for what the organization takes on next, not only how it gets delivered.
  • Delivery at Scale: Deliver through others. Your success is measured by what the organization ships, not by the programs you personally run. Remove systemic blockers across teams and organizations, and build mechanisms that make delivery faster and more predictable without depending on you.
  • Technical Judgment: Test plans, estimates and status against the data. Identify risks and opportunities in architectures, technical strategies and team structures, and make the case for the changes that let teams deliver independently.
  • Stakeholder Communication: Write narratives and decision documents that directors and VPs act on. Represent difficult trade-offs clearly in business reviews and escalations.
  • TPM Community: Mentor TPMs and engineers, and raise the standard for how programs are run across Ring.
  • AI-Native Practice: Design program workflows with AI embedded from the start, including automated status, risk detection, dependency tracking and reusable tooling the organization adopts. When a tool or method falls short, fix the tool or the method, not just its output.
A day in the life
You're shaping several of the organization's highest-priority programs at once. In a typical week you might frame a multi-year delivery strategy with engineering leaders, deep dive into an architecture review to test whether a plan holds up, use AI-generated portfolio views to spot cross-team risks before they become escalations, decide with leadership which initiative to accelerate and which to stop, and improve the agentic workflows the team uses to run its programs. You balance hands-on judgment with long-range planning, and you keep automating the routine so that you and the organization can focus on decisions, strategy and customer impact.

About the team

We're a collaborative group of teams with deep expertise in video streaming and distributed systems. We invest heavily in how we build, including how we use AI to do it, and we care about spreading that expertise across the organization.

Basic Qualifications

  • Experience in technical product or program management
  • Experience working directly with engineering teams
  • Experience managing programs across cross functional teams, building processes and coordinating release schedules
  • Experience in architectural design or system design independent of an architect
  • Experience in technical program management
  • Experience owning/driving roadmap strategy and definition
  • Demonstrated fluency with AI tools in daily work (writing, analysis, reporting, research)

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience in hands-on work managing complex technology projects
  • Experience managing projects across cross functional teams, building sustainable processes and coordinating release schedules
  • Experience designing AI-assisted or agentic workflows that automate program management work, such as status reporting, risk detection or dependency tracking, and that other teams adopt
  • Experience setting standards for how AI-generated output is validated before decisions are made on it
  • Experience delivering programs that span cloud services, device firmware and mobile apps
  • Experience with large-scale, real-time distributed systems, such as video streaming or media platforms
