Overview

Microsoft Customer and Partner Solutions-Core (MCAPS) accelerates customer outcomes and business growth. By uniting product, engineering, marketing, sales, customer success, and partners around a common customer mission, we help customers realize value faster and turn innovation into measurable business impact. Through deep technical expertise and differentiated go-to-market execution, we win competitively, capture market share, and scale repeatable growth motions. We differentiate through value creation - delivering world-class, AI-powered customer experiences that accelerate adoption, strengthen loyalty, and create sustainable competitive advantage, driving growth that outpaces the market.

The Strategy & Transformation team identifies emerging opportunities and drives programmatic transformation across MCAPS Core, our customers, partners, and account teams. We design and test new programs, operating models, and customer experiences, then we scale what works to deliver AI-first transformation, customer growth, and measurable commercial impact.

The Principal Partner Ecosystem Strategy Lead is a senior strategy role responsible for identifying and advancing high-impact growth opportunities across Microsoft's partner and ISV ecosystem.

The role operates across complex organizational, commercial, technical, and go-to-market boundaries where the opportunity is often emerging, ownership is distributed, and the path forward is not yet defined.

This leader will independently interpret signals from partners, customers, field teams, business performance, and market dynamics to identify systemic barriers or untapped opportunities that could materially affect partner-led growth. They will determine which opportunities warrant investment, develop the strategic hypothesis and business case, and work across Microsoft organizations to validate the opportunity through analysis, customer and partner evidence, and focused pilots.

For opportunities that prove material, this leader will establish the strategy and intervention, mobilize the right cross-functional teams to test it, define measures of success, and ultimately transition proven motions or mechanisms to the appropriate long-term business owner.

This is not a traditional partner management or program management role. It requires strategic judgment, comfort with ambiguity, and the ability to create clarity and momentum across complex problems without relying on formal authority or established playbooks.

Microsoft’s mission is to empower every person and every organization on the planet to achieve more. As employees we come together with a growth mindset, innovate to empower others and collaborate to realize our shared goals. Each day we build on our values of respect, integrity, and accountability to create a culture of inclusion where everyone can thrive at work and beyond.

Responsibilities

Identify and Prioritize Growth Opportunities

  • Interpret partner, customer, field, market, and business signals to identify systemic barriers and emerging opportunities for partner-led growth.
  • Connect signals across commercial models, incentives, customer engagement, technical investment, Marketplace, field execution, and partner strategy to identify opportunities that may not be visible within any single organization.
  • Distinguish between isolated operational friction and systemic constraints that materially affect growth.
  • Develop clear hypotheses about the business opportunity, affected behavior, potential intervention, and expected impact.
  • Make disciplined recommendations about which opportunities to advance, which belong with existing business owners, and which should not consume additional investment.

Validate and Incubate Strategic Opportunities

  • Lead discovery and validation of ambiguous, cross-organizational opportunities before significant investment is made.
  • Develop the evidence, business case, success measures, and decision criteria required to determine whether an opportunity should advance.
  • Partner with product management and other business, technical, commercial, and field teams across Microsoft to design focused pilots and experiments.
  • Establish clear go/no-go criteria and use evidence to refine, scale, redirect, or stop initiatives.
  • Maintain strategic ownership of the opportunity while drawing on functional experts and execution teams across Microsoft.

Design Scalable Growth Mechanisms

  • Translate validated opportunities into repeatable growth motions, operating mechanisms, commercial approaches, or changes to existing business processes.
  • Identify where organizational seams, incentives, ownership models, or existing mechanisms inhibit partner-led growth and determine the highest-leverage intervention.
  • Define how successful interventions can operate through existing Microsoft organizations rather than creating unnecessary parallel structures.
  • Develop clear ownership, measurement, governance, and transition models for initiatives that prove successful.

Influence and Mobilize Across Microsoft

  • Build coalitions across business groups, sales, engineering, commercial, finance, Marketplace, partner, and customer organizations.
  • Navigate situations in which multiple organizations own portions of a problem but no organization owns the end-to-end opportunity.
  • Influence senior stakeholders through evidence, strategic clarity, and business impact rather than positional authority.
  • Establish enough alignment to move from an ambiguous opportunity to a bounded test and ultimately to an organizational decision.

Scale and Transition

  • Define what must be true before an incubated initiative is ready to scale.
  • Establish measurable evidence that an intervention changes partner, customer, seller, or business outcomes.
  • Identify the appropriate long-term business owner and build the mechanisms required for a successful transition.
  • Ensure successful work becomes embedded into durable business processes rather than remaining dependent on the strategy team.
Qualifications

Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's Degree in Business, Operations, Finance, Engineering or related field AND 8+ years experience in program management, process management, or process improvement
    • OR equivalent experience

Additional Preferred Qualifications:

    • OR Bachelor's Degree in Business, Operations, Finance, Engineering or related field AND 15+ years experience in program management, process management, or process improvement
    • OR equivalent experience.
  • Operates independently with limited direction and can turn an ambiguous signal into a structured strategic investigation.
  • Demonstrates judgment about what matters, what doesn't, and where to invest organizational energy.
  • Can move fluidly between strategy, business models, commercial considerations, customer scenarios, technology, and organizational design.
  • Understands partner and ISV business models and how partners create customer and platform value.
  • Can engage credibly with product, engineering, sales, finance, commercial, partner, and executive stakeholders.
  • Knows how to find the real business constraint beneath a collection of symptoms.
  • Can design a lightweight test or pilot rather than defaulting immediately to a large program.
  • Is comfortable driving work through people and organizations they do not manage.
  • Can challenge assumptions while building the coalition necessary to move an idea forward.
  • Measures success through business impact and behavior change, not activity.
  • Is willing to recommend not pursuing an initiative when evidence does not support further investment.
  • Can build something important and then deliberately hand it to someone else to run.
