The Microsoft Entra Application Governance team builds core capabilities that help enterprises discover, manage, govern, and secure application identities at scale. As organizations adopt AI-powered applications, agents, automation, and other non-human identities, our mission is expanding to provide the visibility, least-privilege controls, lifecycle management, and policy enforcement needed to adopt this new generation of software securely. We are looking for a Principal Engineering Manager to lead a team working at the intersection of identity, security, AI, governance, and cloud-scale distributed systems. You will set technical and execution direction, build a strong engineering culture, and partner across Microsoft to deliver platform capabilities that directly affect customer security, compliance, and operational efficiency. This role combines people leadership, deep engineering judgment, product thinking, and accountability for reliable services operating at global scale. Responsibilities
  • Lead, coach, and develop a high-performing team of software engineers, driving clarity on priorities, ownership, expectations, and outcomes.
  • Define and execute the engineering strategy for platform services that enable customers to understand, govern, and secure permissions across applications, AI workloads, agents, and automated systems.
  • Own end-to-end service delivery, including architecture, design, development, testing, deployment, monitoring, reliability, and long-term platform health.
  • Elevate engineering excellence through strong design reviews, code quality standards, secure development practices, automation, observability, and operational rigor.
  • Drive operational excellence by ensuring service health, managing incidents, leading root-cause analysis, and implementing preventive measures to reduce recurring customer impact.
  • Collaborate closely with product managers, architects, security teams, and partner organizations across Microsoft Entra and Microsoft Security to deliver seamless platform experiences.
  • Champion the responsible use of AI-assisted engineering practices to improve developer productivity, software quality, team learning, and delivery velocity.

Qualifications

Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science or related technical field AND demonstrated technical engineering experience with coding in languages including, but not limited to, C, C++, C#, Java, JavaScript, or Python OR equivalent experience.
  • Demonstrated professional experience leading software engineering teams that build and operate production services and experience developing engineers, building healthy teams, and setting clear standards for execution and engineering quality.
  • Demonstrated ability to lead complex engineering work from strategy and design through delivery and live-site operation.
  • Ability to collaborate and influence across organizational boundaries while communicating clearly with both technical and non-technical stakeholders.

Qualifications - Other Requirements:

Ability to meet Microsoft, customer and/or government security screening requirements are required for this role. These requirements include, but are not limited to the following specialized security screenings: Microsoft Cloud Background Check:
This position will be required to pass the Microsoft background and Microsoft Cloud background check upon hire/transfer and every two years thereafter.

Software Engineering M5 - The typical base pay range for this role across Czechia is Kč 1,983,000.00 - Kč 3,553,000.00 per year. Certain roles may be eligible for benefits and other compensation.
