Change the future with us.

We are looking for a Postdoctoral Researcher (f/m/d) to advance agentic performance engineering for embedded and edge systems.

AI agents are becoming increasingly capable of analyzing and modifying software. In industrial software engineering, however, meaningful autonomy requires more than generating code: agents must understand how software behaves on the actual target system, identify the root causes of performance deviations, derive suitable optimizations and verify their impact against measurable system requirements.

Our goal is to develop methods and capabilities that enable AI agents to act as performance engineers within an AI-native software development lifecycle.

What we offer you:

  • Research at the intersection of agentic software engineering, performance analysis and embedded systems
  • Access to heterogeneous industrial compute platforms and challenging real-world performance problems
  • The opportunity to contribute to a broader AI-native software engineering initiative
  • Opportunities for scientific publications, patents, software assets and technology transfer

Since each of over 300,000 team members feels that other benefits are particularly important, and we cannot list our entire benefit portfolio here, you can find more information here.

The individual benefits are subject to regulatory, contractual, or corporate conditions.

Your research may include:

  • Developing methods and tooling that enable agents to observe and reason about system behavior across application software, runtime/OS and heterogeneous hardware
  • Researching how agents can identify performance bottlenecks and derive targeted changes to code, compiler settings, scheduling, resource allocation or system configuration
  • Designing closed-loop optimization workflows in which changes are deployed and executed on real targets and evaluated through independent measurements
  • Investigating performance and real-time properties such as latency, jitter, resource interference and worst-case behavior on embedded and heterogeneous compute platforms
  • Developing benchmarks, evaluation methods and reusable knowledge that allow agentic engineering approaches to be validated systematically and transferred across platforms
A key research challenge is to provide agents with the observability, reasoning capabilities and safe means of experimentation required to improve real systems while ensuring that every change is judged by measured target behavior rather than by the agent itself.

Your work will combine methodological research with implementation and experimental validation on real embedded and industrial compute platforms. Results may contribute to scientific publications, reusable software assets, benchmarks and future engineering tools.

Your profile:

  • Education: You hold a PhD in Computer Science, Electrical Engineering or a related field
  • Experience & Skills:
    • You have a strong background in performance engineering, operating systems, compilers, embedded systems, real-time systems, computer architecture or related areas
    • You have programming experience in **C/C++ and Python**
    • You are comfortable working with Linux, embedded or real-time operating environments and heterogeneous compute platforms
    • Experience with profiling, tracing, performance counters, compiler optimization, scheduling or hardware/software co-design is highly beneficial
    • Experience with AI agents, automated program optimization or AI-assisted software engineering is an advantage
  • Ways of working:
    • You enjoy developing new methods and validating them through working implementations and experiments on real hardware
  • Languages:
    • You speak English fluently

You are much more than your qualifications, and we believe in the potential of every single candidate. We look forward to getting to know you!
