Packaging Design Engineer, Platforms and Devices
As a member of a fast-paced multi-disciplinary team, you use your creativity and range of engineering experience to explore solutions to a variety of engineering problems. As a mechanical engineer, you participate in the design, analysis, and prototyping of new concepts. You work in a manufacturing and product oriented development environment and collaborate with vendors and outside sources in order to see parts through to manufacture.
The Platforms and Devices team encompasses Google's various computing software platforms across environments (desktop, mobile, applications), as well as our first party devices and services that combine the best of Google AI, software, and hardware. Teams across this area research, design, and develop new technologies to make our user's interaction with computing faster and more seamless, building innovative experiences for our users around the world.
US: $159000 - $230000 (USD) + 15% bonus target + equity + benefits

Responsibilities
- Be responsible for the conception, design, development, documentation creation, validation and release of packaging.
- Interact with suppliers to develop packaging solutions from high-level design concepts.
- Collaborate with ID, PMs, Engineers, User Experience, Marketing, Operations and Logistics teams both in region and out.
Minimum qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering, Packaging Engineering, a related field, or equivalent practical experience.
- 5 years of experience working with a wide range of consumer packaging materials.
- Experience with packaging Computer Aided Designs using 2D (ArtiosCAD) and 3D (SolidWorks, NX) applications and palletization software (TOPS and CAPE).
Preferred qualifications:
- 8 years of relevant industry experience, with ability to lead teams for quality, schedule or design.
- Experience managing multiple packaging projects in a cross-functional environment. Experience with logistics and operations and how they relate to packaging design.
- Experience working with sustainable packaging design methods and materials, with an understanding of international testing standards such as ASTM, ISTA, etc.
- Experience in packaging design and development for high-volume products. Understanding of various packaging materials tooling design and schedules.
- Experience with rendering software (Keyshot).
- Ability to work in office and manufacturing environments.
