Origination Lead, Megapack

Tesla is seeking an Origination Lead to own and execute the offtake strategy for Tesla Energy’s self-development portfolio. This role will be responsible for securing power purchase agreements, tolling agreements, and other offtake contracts for utility-scale solar and storage projects across ERCOT, SPP, MISO, and the Western U.S. 

The Origination Lead will manage the full offtake lifecycle — from market analysis and counterparty identification, through RFP response and term sheet negotiation, to contract execution. This person will also play a key strategic role, informing Tesla’s development priorities with commercial and market intelligence, and building relationships with utility procurement teams, corporate buyers, and hyperscaler data center customers. 

Successful candidates will have a long track record of closing utility-scale offtake deals and deep relationships across target markets. We are seeking a commercial leader with a passion for Tesla’s mission to accelerate the world’s transition to sustainable energy. 

Responsibilities

• Own Tesla Energy’s offtake strategy for the self-development portfolio, targeting multi-hundred MW of contracted offtake annually across solar and solar+storage projects 

• Identify, qualify, and pursue offtake opportunities with utilities, cooperatives, corporate buyers, and data center/hyperscaler customers 

• Structure and negotiate PPAs, VPPAs, tolling agreements, capacity contracts, and other offtake arrangements 

• Manage RFP processes end-to-end — monitor utility IRPs and procurement cycles, prepare competitive bids, and manage through award and contract execution 

• Conduct market analysis to inform development strategy, including pricing trends, basis risk, congestion, and counterparty credit assessment 

• Build and maintain relationships with utility procurement teams, C&I buyers, and hyperscaler energy teams across target geographies 

• Collaborate with development, interconnection, engineering, and finance teams to ensure project commercial readiness; manage and mentor junior origination staff as the team grows 

Requirements

• 10–15+ years of utility-scale renewable energy origination experience, with a demonstrated track record of signing PV and/or storage offtake agreements (2+ GW of executed contracts preferred) 

• Deep relationships with utility procurement teams in at least two of: ERCOT, SPP, MISO, Western U.S. 

• Advanced knowledge of offtake structures — PPAs, VPPAs, tolling agreements, hedge/swap structures, capacity/RA contracts, and corporate offtake 

• Experience with corporate and data center/hyperscaler PPA negotiations a strong plus 

• Strong understanding of wholesale electricity market dynamics, nodal pricing, basis risk, and congestion revenue rights, particularly in ERCOT 

• Excellent negotiation and communication skills; experience managing complex, multi-party contract negotiations 

• Understanding of project economics, financial modeling, and the interplay between offtake terms and project returns

Expected Compensation

$156,000 - $264,000/annual salary + cash and stock awards + benefits

Pay offered may vary depending on multiple individualized factors, including market location, job-related knowledge, skills, and experience. The total compensation package for this position may also include other elements dependent on the position offered.
