Customer Systems is part of IS&T and drives the technology behind Apple's customer support experience — from contact center operations to the software powering the iconic Genius Bar. The team also builds and operates AppleCare's online support platform, which handles 6 billion visits per year, delivering seamless, high-quality support to Apple customers around the globe.

Description

Apple Customer systems Operations team is looking for a highly skilled and motivated OPS Engineer (Operations Engineer). You will design and develop automation solutions to streamline system sustenance, monitoring, and operational workflows, while collaborating closely with support and engineering teams.

Responsibilities

  • Your responsibilities will span incident management, capacity planning, deployment safety, and operational tooling. Ideal candidates will combine strong software engineering skills with a passion for operational excellence, and thrive in a fast-paced, change-driven environment focused on continuous improvement and flawless delivery.

Minimum Qualifications

  • 4+ years experience supporting mission critical production applications in an enterprise environment AND 2+ years of Software development experience building highly scalable RESTful web services, or some combination of both.
  • Java development, J2EE, and related experience is critical for this role.
  • Experience in troubleshooting, analyzing logs, building metrics, and operational dashboards
  • Fundamental understanding of distributed systems (e.g., microservices, messaging brokers) and Linux operating system internals

Preferred Qualifications

  • Demonstrated ability to lead SEV1/SEV2 incident bridges, conduct blameless postmortems, and drive problem management initiativesProven experience leading global operations teams in large-scale enterprise environments, with strong collaboration and leadership skills.
  • Expertise in observability and monitoring using tools such as Hubble, ExtraHop, Splunk, and similar platforms.
  • Strong foundation in networking (HTTP, DNS, TCP/IP, ICMP, OSI Model, Subnetting, Load Balancing).
  • Hands-on engineering background with Java/JEE, REST APIs, Swift/Objective-C, databases (schema design, data access), and modern frontend technologies (React, JavaScript).
  • Proficiency in supporting scalable, event-driven architectures (Kafka or equivalent), large distributed systems, and high-availability platforms.
  • Strong automation skills with Python/Linux, including CI/CD pipelines, Infrastructure as Code, Kubernetes/EKS (deployment strategies, scaling, troubleshooting), and self-healing systems.
  • Experience applying AI/ML for operational automation (anomaly detection, predictive alerting, automated incident response).
  • Familiarity with ITSM frameworks and enterprise support practices.
