Description and Requirements
Role Overview
To improve product launch success, enhance customer experience, and ensure robust and scalable product designs, we are seeking a DfX Engineer to proactively engage throughout early-stage product development.
This role is responsible for driving Design for Manufacturability, Design for Serviceability, and Design for Quality best practices within product development teams. The DfX Engineer will work cross-functionally with Design, Manufacturing, Serviceability, Quality, and NPI teams to identify and mitigate design risks early, reduce late-stage design changes, and ensure that products are developed with manufacturability, serviceability, process capability, and customer quality expectations in mind.
The engineer will facilitate DfX development reviews, conduct drawing and tolerance reviews, support process capability and production readiness activities, and provide actionable recommendations to improve product quality, manufacturability, field service efficiency, and overall customer experience.
Key Responsibilities
- Conduct drawing reviews and provide early design recommendations to reduce manufacturing risk, improve serviceability, and enhance customer experience.
- Review GD&T schemes, tolerance stack-up analyses, and critical dimensions to ensure robust assembly, process capability, and production feasibility.
- Collaborate with Design, Manufacturing, Serviceability, Quality, NPI, and Supply Chain teams to ensure DfX considerations are addressed early in product development.
- Lead or facilitate DfX development reviews to identify and mitigate risks related to assembly, process variation, serviceability, cost, and customer quality.
- Apply structured quality and risk management tools such as DFMEA, Control Plans, NUDD assessments, and other DfQ methodologies to support risk-based design decisions.
- Identify, document, and track key design-related risks, including New, Unique, Difficult, or Different elements, and ensure appropriate mitigation actions are defined.
- Ensure design outputs align with manufacturing process capabilities, yield targets, service requirements, and customer quality expectations.
- Consolidate field service challenges and translate them into actionable recommendations for development teams to improve product maintainability and field service efficiency.
- Coordinate cross-functional design reviews and feedback loops during key product development milestones.
- Partner with manufacturing engineers, suppliers, and relevant technical teams to validate tooling, tolerances, design intent, and production readiness.
- Support process validation, pilot builds, NPI activities, and production readiness reviews from concept through mass production.
- Drive lessons learned, best-practice sharing, and continuous improvement across programs to improve future product designs.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering, Industrial Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or a related technical field.
- 5+ years of experience in DFM, DfX, quality engineering, product development, NPI, or manufacturing engineering within a manufacturing environment.
- Strong understanding of DFM principles, design tolerancing, GD&T, tolerance stack-up, process variation, process capability, and cost optimization.
- Experience supporting NPI programs from concept through pilot builds and mass production.
- Ability to evaluate service scenarios and provide design recommendations that improve customer experience, maintainability, and field service efficiency.
- Hands-on experience with structured quality tools such as DFMEA, Control Plans, DFM/DFA, NUDD assessments, or similar risk management methodologies.
- Ability to lead cross-functional reviews, facilitate technical discussions, and drive alignment across multiple teams and stakeholders.
- Excellent communication, documentation, and problem-solving skills.
- Fluent communication skills in English; Mandarin language capability is preferred depending on program/team requirements.
Preferred Qualifications
- Six Sigma Green Belt or Black Belt, Certified Quality Engineer, PMP, or equivalent certification.
- Experience working with global engineering, manufacturing, supplier, serviceability, or quality teams.
- Experience with server, storage, hardware, or complex electronic product development is preferred.
- Familiarity with product lifecycle management, manufacturing readiness, supplier qualification, or service readiness processes.
Travel Requirement
- Ability to travel up to 5% as required.
