We are currently recruiting for a Mechanical Design Engineer to join our Engineering team. This role comes with the responsibility to design innovative, state of the art, cost and energy efficient design solutions for the different systems mentioned in the responsibilities below.
You will be working in our state-of-the-art Gigafactory where you’ll solve the world's most interesting problems with the best and brightest people who share a passion to change the world.
Responsibilities
- Work on site in Grünheide (Mark) with the mechanical design team.
- Deliver LPH 2–5 mechanical designs in line with local codes and Tesla standards, and align closely with all other disciplines.
- Lead coordination for HVAC and plumbing with engineers and modelers.
- Review deliverables from external design consultants and modelers.
- Support supplier technical discussions and, with Procurement, commercial negotiations on price and lead time.
- Plan and track design deliverables to protect start-of-production milestones on new projects.
- Check contractor shop drawings and submittals.
- Produce construction drawings in Revit and AutoCAD to VDI 6026 LPH 5.
- Prepare basis of design, hydraulic and static load calculations, thermal load calculations, schematics, BOQs, equipment schedules, and sequences of operation.
- Interface with design management, other design trades, procurement, construction, quality, commissioning, facility management, EHS, permitting, project controls, and related functions.
- Translate manufacturing needs into practical recommendations for reliable equipment operation.
- Identify opportunities for innovation, operational improvement, and OPEX reduction, and build data-backed business cases with ROI, cost estimates, and compliance with local codes and international standards.
Requirements
- Master’s degree in engineering or German Diplom-Ingenieur.
- 3+ years of design experience across mechanical building and process systems, including:
- General and lab ventilation, dust collection, VOC abatement, smoke exhaust, dry air, clean rooms, and pressurization
- Process heating water, chilled water, and condenser water
- Domestic potable and hot water, industrial water, sewage/condensate, vacuum drainage, and rainwater networks
- Fluent English; German is an advantage.
- Strong communication skills and comfort working in flexible, agile, cross-functional teams.
- Solid grasp of engineering design principles and relevant guides/standards for the discipline (e.g. DIN, VDI, AwSV).
- Proficiency with thermal load tools (e.g. HAP or equivalent) and hydraulic calculation software (e.g. Pipeflo or similar).
- Advanced user of Revit, Navisworks, and AutoCAD.
- Confident with MS Office and project platforms such as Azure and Aconex.
