Master Thesis: Adaptive Indoor - Outdoor Positioning
Join our Team
No single positioning technology performs reliably in every environment. Outdoor and indoor settings present different challenges, and switching between technologies can lead to interruptions or reduced accuracy. This Master’s thesis will investigate how an adaptive positioning system can combine technologies such as GNSS, cellular positioning, and Wi-Fi to provide continuous, reliable, and accurate location services as users move between outdoor and indoor environments. The direction of the thesis can be influenced by your interests, for example through the choice of algorithms, fusion methods, evaluation scenarios, or application areas.
What you will do
You will design and evaluate an adaptive positioning framework that combines information from multiple positioning technologies.
Your work will include:
- Reviewing recent research on indoor and outdoor positioning, including GNSS, cellular positioning, and Wi-Fi.
- Developing an adaptive framework for seamless positioning across different environments.
- Investigating methods for combining information from multiple positioning technologies.
- Evaluating the system in terms of positioning accuracy, reliability, and continuity.
- Validating the proposed approach through simulations under different user and environmental conditions.
- Analyzing and discussing the results.
- Deriving practical design guidelines for robust and ubiquitous positioning systems.
- Presenting and documenting your findings in a Master’s thesis.
The skills you bring
We are looking for a motivated MSc student with:
- An academic background in engineering physics, electrical engineering, computer science, or a related field.
- A strong interest in wireless communications, signal processing, and positioning.
- Knowledge of programming and algorithm development using MATLAB or Python.
- A strong mathematical foundation.
- Knowledge of optimization and machine learning techniques.
- The ability to conduct systematic research and explore innovative solutions.
- The ability to work independently while collaborating effectively with a team.
- Excellent written and spoken English.
Please attach a transcript of records to your application, showing your completed courses and grades.
