Responsibilities
  • Support manufacturing and NPI projects for precision optical and laser interferometer products by assisting with product, process, and tooling improvements that enhance manufacturability, quality, and production readiness.
  • Assist production teams in the assembly, alignment, testing, and release of optical and opto-mechanical products, including the transfer of new tooling, processes, and procedures into production.
  • Participate in tooling and fixture design activities using Siemens NX 3D CAD to create and improve manufacturing aids that support the assembly and testing of optical components and interferometer systems.
  • Support the development and maintenance of manufacturing documentation, including assembly procedures, optical alignment instructions, test methods, work instructions, and engineering change updates.
  • Assist with production troubleshooting and continuous improvement efforts by collecting data, documenting findings, and helping resolve issues related to optical assemblies, interferometers, and production test systems.
  • Contribute to failure analysis and quality initiatives by supporting root cause investigations, customer return analysis, MRB activities, and corrective/preventive actions for optical and opto-mechanical products.
  • Support optical test and validation activities, including interferometer test station upgrades, hardware evaluations, data collection, gauge qualification, and process validation efforts.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams including manufacturing, optical engineering, quality, and supply chain to support process improvements, supplier qualifications, and production readiness activities.
  • Analyze manufacturing and test performance metrics by maintaining yield tracking tools, evaluating production data, and supporting initiatives to improve quality, throughput, and cost efficiency for optical and interferometer products.
Qualifications
  • Pursuing a Bachelor's or Master's degree in Mechanical Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering, Optical Engineering, Physics, Mechatronics, or a related technical field.
  • Basic understanding of engineering principles, mechanical design, and manufacturing processes.
  • Experience with CAD software (Siemens NX preferred, SolidWorks or similar acceptable).
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with the ability to investigate and troubleshoot technical issues.
  • Comfortable working in a laboratory, manufacturing, or production environment.
  • Ability to collect, analyze, and present data using Microsoft Excel or similar tools.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills and the ability to work effectively in a team environment.
  • Detail-oriented with strong organizational skills and a commitment to quality.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Coursework or laboratory experience involving optics, precision mechanics, photonics, instrumentation, or manufacturing.
  • Familiarity with optical components such as lenses, mirrors, beam splitters, polarizers, or laser systems.
  • Exposure to optical alignment techniques, metrology equipment, or interferometry concepts.
  • Experience with engineering documentation, technical reports, or work instructions.
  • Familiarity with statistical analysis, process improvement methods, or root cause analysis techniques.
  • Experience programming or automating data analysis using Python, MATLAB, LabVIEW, or similar tools.
