Responsibilities

Lot Start Execution

  • Start new lots in the manufacturing execution system (MES) from released jobs, using the correct process route, product, lot size, wafer quantity and priority.
  • Confirm every lot is approved in the weekly start plan before release. Don't start unapproved or out-of-cycle work without management approval.
  • Keep lot start records accurate, including lot numbers, job numbers, mask sets and wafer IDs.
  • Handle special start types as directed, such as full-flow, partial-flow, short-loop and engineering lots.

Lot Dispatching

  • Move completed lots from one process area to the next, following the process route.
  • Check in the system that each lot has finished its current step before moving it. Its status, location and paperwork must match.
  • Move lots promptly so they don't sit idle between areas.
  • Deliver lots in priority order. Move hot lots and expedited lots first, as directed by Planning or management.
  • Handle and transport wafers correctly, following carrier, ESD and contamination-control requirements.
  • Work with area leads and shift supervisors to keep lots moving and avoid backups at receiving areas.
  • Flag lots that are on hold, incomplete or missing paperwork, and escalate them instead of moving them.
  • Keep lot movement records accurate in the system.

Wafer-Start Allocation & Control

  • Track weekly wafer starts against the approved allocation for each category, such as production, engineering and development. Raise any request that would exceed the limit before acting on it.
  • Keep the weekly starts tracker current, and provide start data and summaries for planning reviews.
  • Place lots on hold, release them and change priorities as directed.
  • Record trade-offs when urgent starts are offset by holding or deferring other work.

Material & Substrate Management

  • Manage substrate and epitaxial wafer inventory, including qualified and unqualified material, and report shortages early.
  • Complete material transfers in the system, and check received wafers against the transfer paperwork.
  • Work with engineering on the rules for which material to use for each product.
  • Keep system inventory matching physical inventory. Store and label material correctly.

Outside Processing

  • Prepare and ship lots to outside vendors and subcontractors for processing, such as epitaxial growth, regrowth, backside processing or other outsourced steps.
  • Check lot contents, wafer counts, wafer IDs and paperwork before shipment.
  • Package and label wafers correctly, following handling, ESD and contamination-control requirements.
  • Complete the required shipping records, purchase orders or transfer transactions, and move lot status in the system to match the physical location.
  • Work with Planning, Engineering, Purchasing and Shipping/Receiving on schedules, vendor instructions and required documents.
  • Track lots while they're at outside vendors, and escalate delays, damage or missing material.
  • Receive returned lots, check wafer counts and condition against the shipping records, and return them to the line in the system.

Communication & Coordination

  • Serve as the main operational contact for Planning, Engineering, material suppliers and shift supervisors on anything related to lot starts, dispatching and outside processing.
  • Confirm completed starts back to Planning quickly, and escalate missing material, routing problems or unclear requests right away.
  • Hand off clearly to production shifts so lots flow through the line without delay.

Quality, Compliance & Continuous Improvement

  • Follow approved procedures and system instructions exactly, with no informal or undocumented direction.
  • Follow safety, cleanroom, ESD and material-handling requirements at all times.
  • Report start, dispatch and shipping errors, and take part in root cause analysis and corrective action.
  • Suggest improvements to start, dispatch and shipping workflows, trackers and reporting tools.
  • Keep procedures and training materials current, and help train backups.
Qualifications

Required

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • 2+ years in semiconductor manufacturing, cleanroom operations, or a similar controlled production setting.
  • Experience using a manufacturing execution system (MES) or ERP system to track lots, move them and record transactions.
  • Very strong attention to detail, with a record of accurate data entry and documentation.
  • Knowledge of lot tracking, work-in-process (WIP) flow, lot priorities and holds.
  • Ability to handle and transport wafers safely, following cleanroom, ESD and contamination-control requirements.
  • Intermediate Excel skills for tracking, reconciling data and reporting.
  • Clear written and verbal communication with planning, engineering, production and outside vendors.
  • Ability to juggle competing priorities, meet deadlines and escalate issues early.
  • Ability to follow written procedures exactly and work with little supervision.
  • Ability to meet cleanroom gowning requirements, stand and walk for long periods, and lift up to 25 lbs.

Preferred

  • Associate's degree or technical certificate in manufacturing, electronics, logistics, or a related field.
  • Experience in wafer starts, material control, or production control in a semiconductor fab.
  • Knowledge of compound semiconductor substrates and epitaxial materials.
  • Experience shipping material to and receiving it from outside vendors, including packaging, shipping paperwork and purchase orders.
  • Understanding of inventory control practices and reconciling physical inventory against system records.
  • Experience training others or covering as a backup in production support roles.
