Title and Summary

Manager, Software Engineering — ConnectivityThis role sits within Mastercard's Open Finance Europe – Connectivity team, responsible for building and operating scalable API connectivity to financial institutions across Europe.

As a Manager, Software Engineering, you will lead a team of software engineers responsible for delivering secure, reliable, and scalable connectivity services. You will combine technical leadership with people management, driving engineering execution, fostering a high-performing team, and ensuring the successful delivery of business-critical initiatives.

You will partner closely with Product, Architecture, Security, and business stakeholders to define engineering priorities, deliver new capabilities, improve platform reliability, and scale integrations across multiple European markets.

Core Responsibilities
Lead, mentor, and develop a high-performing team of software engineers through coaching, performance management, and career development
Own engineering execution for multiple initiatives, ensuring high-quality delivery from design through development, deployment, and production support
Drive technical excellence by promoting engineering best practices, architectural standards, code quality, security, testing, and operational excellence
Collaborate with Product Management to prioritize work, manage delivery commitments, and align engineering efforts with business objectives
Partner with Architecture, Security, SRE, and Platform Engineering teams to build scalable, resilient, and secure solutions
Guide system design and technical decision-making while empowering engineers to solve complex technical challenges
Establish engineering processes that improve delivery predictability, developer productivity, and operational efficiency
Ensure production stability through effective monitoring, incident management, root cause analysis, and continuous improvement
Foster a culture of ownership, innovation, collaboration, and continuous learning across the team
Drive adoption of automation, CI/CD, observability, and AI-assisted engineering tools to improve engineering velocity and quality
Support hiring, onboarding, workforce planning, and succession planning to build a strong engineering organization
Communicate engineering progress, risks, and strategic initiatives to senior leadership and cross-functional stakeholders

All About You

Must Have
Proven experience leading and managing software engineering teams delivering cloud-native, highly available applications
Strong technical background in backend engineering, API design, distributed systems, and production operations
Demonstrated ability to lead engineering teams through the full software development lifecycle
Experience managing engineering delivery, balancing technical debt, platform reliability, and business priorities
Strong coaching and mentoring skills with a passion for developing engineering talent
Experience collaborating with Product Management and business stakeholders to translate business objectives into engineering outcomes
Experience driving engineering best practices, including code quality, testing, security, DevOps, and operational excellence
Familiarity with banking, payments, or Open Banking (PSD2) ecosystems
Excellent communication, stakeholder management, and leadership skills
Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities with a data-driven approach to decision-making

Nice to Have
Experience leading teams delivering Open Banking or large-scale financial institution connectivity platforms
Experience managing geographically distributed engineering teams
Experience with AI-assisted software development tools (GitHub Copilot, ChatGPT, etc.)
Track record of improving engineering productivity through automation, platform engineering, and DevOps practices
Experience with Infrastructure as Code, cloud governance, and engineering platform modernization
Experience defining engineering metrics, OKRs, and operational KPIs to drive continuous improvement
