Description
The Mac System Product Design team works on developing and integrating technology into the next generation of Mac products. We apply a genuine sense of curiosity and dedication to delivering truly innovative and relevant products that enrich our customers’ lives. We want you to join our cohesive and diverse family of Product Design Engineers to do the most impactful work of your life. In this role, you will ideate concepts, design down to the details, prototype & test, and travel to assembly sites to optimize the design. You will collaborate with industrial designers, product integrity, hardware, software, technology, and Operations groups to refine & execute on the design of the product.
Responsibilities
- Design, engineering, prototyping, and validation activities in both laboratory and factory environments
- Create 3D models and 2D drawings, and perform tolerance analysis to ensure precise fit and assembly
- Conduct engineering data collection and leverage statistical or AI-driven tools to analyze results and inform design decisions
- Optimize component designs for high-volume manufacturing, applying DFM/DFA principles for injection molding, sheet metal, and CNC machining
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams to support factory builds and perform root-cause/failure analysis
- Communicate technical specifications, test results, and design updates clearly and effectively to internal teams and external vendors
Minimum Qualifications
- B.S. Mechanical Engineering or equivalent
- Experience in mechanical design, hands-on troubleshooting, 3D CAD
- Proficiency in verbal and written communication in both English and Chinese
- Ability to travel to vendors during weekdays.
Preferred Qualifications
- Knowledge of mechanical engineering fundamentals: solid mechanics, heat transfer, mechanism design; Knowledge of material fundamentals, spanning plastics, metals, adhesives, glass, ceramics, composites, and coatings
- Proficiency in 3D CAD software (Siemens NX preferred)
- Experience in generating concepts, prototype, and applying engineering testings to validate the concepts
- Experience in Design for Manufacturability (DFM), Design for Assembly (DFA), tolerance analysis techniques, functional dimensioning, and geometric tolerancing
- General knowledge of input device technology (keyboard, trackpad, mouse, haptic modules)
- General knowledge of mechanism design, haptics, acoustics, and interconnect technologies
- Understanding of engineering analysis, including Finite Element Analysis (FEA) theory, general mechanical principles, and statistical tools
- Excellent written and verbal communication, paired with the ability to thrive in a collaborative, team-based environment
- Strong organizational skills, with the ability to manage multiple tests and project requests simultaneously
- Experience using AI tools in previous programs for solving engineering problems
- 3+ years of experience in a mechanical engineering role
