What will you do?
The Logistics Engineer is responsible for analyzing, designing, implementing, and continuously improving material-flow and logistics processes across warehouse, receiving, production, point-of-use (POU), finished-goods staging, and shipping operations. The role applies engineering, Lean, data-analysis, and SAP/WMS knowledge to improve efficiency, inventory accuracy, space utilization, material availability, and overall logistics performance.
Warehouse & Material Flow
- Develop and optimize warehouse layouts and material-flow processes.
- Establish efficient receiving, put-away, storage, picking, and shipping processes.
- Improve material flow from receiving through warehouse, POU/production, finished goods, and shipping.
- Determine optimal locations for materials, bins, racks, and point-of-use inventory.
- Analyze warehouse capacity and identify opportunities to improve space utilization.
Production Logistics
- Develop and optimize material replenishment systems for production lines.
- Establish Kanban, supermarket, two-bin, milk-run, or other replenishment systems as appropriate.
- Improve point-of-use material availability and reduce production material shortages.
- Define delivery routes, frequencies, quantities, and standard work for material replenishment.
- Reduce unnecessary material movement and handling on the production floor.
SAP / ERP & Data
- Improve warehouse and logistics processes within SAP/WMS.
- Analyze inventory transactions, material movements, and warehouse data.
- Develop reports and dashboards to monitor logistics performance.
- Ensure warehouse locations and material master data support the physical process.
- Identify and correct discrepancies between system inventory and physical inventory.
Process Improvement
- Conduct time studies, process observations, and material-flow analysis.
- Apply Lean Manufacturing and continuous-improvement methodologies.
- Identify bottlenecks and eliminate non-value-added activities.
- Improve material handling and reduce unnecessary transportation and motion.
- Develop standard work instructions, process maps, and supporting documentation.
- Lead improvement projects with measurable cost, quality, delivery, or productivity results.
Packaging & Shipping
- Optimize packaging, pallets, skids, containers, and shipping methods.
- Improve finished-goods staging and shipment preparation processes.
- Work with suppliers and logistics providers to improve logistics performance.
- Identify opportunities to reduce packaging cost, transportation cost, and product damage.
Engineering & Layout
- Design warehouse and production logistics layouts.
- Determine equipment and material-handling requirements.
- Support automation projects such as conveyors, scanners, pick-to-light, and automated material handling.
- Perform capacity analysis for warehouse and production logistics.
Cross-Functional Support
- Work closely with Production Engineering, Warehouse, Production, Supply Chain, Purchasing, Quality, Maintenance, Manufacturing Engineering, IT/SAP, suppliers, and logistics providers.
- Provide engineering support for new products, process changes, warehouse changes, and production transfers.
- Support implementation of standardized logistics processes across manufacturing areas.
What will you need to succeed?
- Bachelor's degree in Industrial Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering, Logistics, Supply Chain, or a related engineering discipline.
- 2–5+ years of experience in manufacturing, warehouse, logistics, material-flow engineering, or a related environment.
- Experience with SAP, WMS, or other ERP/warehouse-management systems.
- Knowledge of Lean Manufacturing and continuous-improvement methodologies.
- Experience with warehouse layout, material-flow analysis, and inventory processes.
- Strong Excel and data-analysis skills.
- Experience with process mapping, time studies, and capacity analysis.
- Strong problem-solving, project-management, communication, and organizational skills.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Experience in a high-volume manufacturing environment.
- Experience implementing SAP/WMS warehouse processes.
- Knowledge of Kanban, supermarket, two-bin, milk-run, and point-of-use replenishment systems.
- Experience with CAD or warehouse/layout design tools.
- Experience with automation, barcode/RFID systems, pick-to-light, conveyors, or other material-handling technologies.
- Knowledge of packaging engineering and transportation optimization.
- Lean Six Sigma certification or equivalent continuous-improvement experience.
Salary is commensurate with experience, and ranges between $ 80,000 CAD - $ 10,000 CAD, excluding bonus and benefits. In addition to base salary, this role includes eligibility for an annual discretionary bonus of 10% base salary, based on Company performance metrics.
