The Mission and the Hard Part

We’re hiring a Legal Counsel to join our Legal team and report to the VP, Head of Legal. In this role, you will be a hands-on legal partner across the business, with a primary focus on commercial contracts. You will also help support marketing, privacy, and product matters. A successful candidate will be comfortable in a fast-paced, dynamic environment in a regulated industry. They will own matters from start to finish, use sound judgment, build scalable processes and systems, and know when to escalate.

As our second attorney, you’ll join early and work directly with our Head of Legal to help build and scale the legal function as we grow. You’ll shape the templates, playbooks, and processes the whole business relies on, working in-house at an AI company with a practical use case that improves patient care while working in a rapidly evolving area of law.

What You'll Own

  • Draft, review, and negotiate a broad range of commercial agreements, including MSAs, order forms, BAAs, DPAs, NDAs, vendor and procurement contracts, and partnership agreements
  • Partner with the business including Sales, Partnerships, Revenue Operations, and Security to structure deals and close them efficiently
  • Advise internal business clients on contract terms such as indemnities, limitations of liability, warranties, IP rights, data use, privacy, and information security
  • Advise on privacy and data protection matters, including HIPAA and state laws, and support privacy-related customer and vendor diligence
  • Build and improve contract templates, playbooks, and leverage AI to automate and streamline legal processes so the business can move quickly with the right guardrails
  • Partner with Product and Engineering on product launches, feature changes, customer-facing terms, and marketing claims, including AI and FDA-cleared products
  • Provide occasional backend support in corporate matters, including entity management, board and stockholder materials, equity administration, and financings
  • Coordinate with outside counsel when needed on specialized matters
  • Other duties as assigned

What Makes the Right Candidate Keep Reading

  • JD degree and active bar membership in at least one U.S. state
  • 4+ years of experience as an attorney, ideally a mix of top law firm and 1+ year of in-house experience
  • Strong commercial contract drafting and negotiation skills, including hands-on experience with B2B SaaS or technology agreements
  • Working knowledge of privacy and data protection law, including HIPAA, as applied to a technology business
  • Ability to manage many concurrent matters, prioritize competing deadlines, and work independently
  • Ability to communicate clearly with non-legal business partners and executives, and to explain why an issue matters for the business
  • Pragmatic, solutions-oriented judgment that balances risk and reward without giving up core legal protections
  • Preference for candidates with experience at a high-growth SaaS startup; healthcare, health tech, or other regulated industry experience a plus
  • Experience with FDA-regulated software or AI products a plus

Our Hybrid Workplace

We have a unique hybrid workplace at Overjet — which combines the teamwork of meeting in person, with the flexibility of working from anywhere.

Many of our positions are based in San Mateo, New York City, Boston, and Salt Lake City. The Jetters who live in these “geo-hubs” come to the office on Tuesdays and Wednesdays, while having the option to work from home the rest of the week.
