Responsibilities

OCI Build is a critical developer infrastructure platform that enables OCI engineering teams to securely and reliably turn source code into deployable artifacts at cloud scale.

As a Lead Principal Software Developer, you will be a senior technical leader for OCI Build, shaping its architecture and long-term technical strategy while solving complex problems across distributed systems, build infrastructure, reliability, security, and developer productivity.

Key Responsibilities

  • Define the technical vision, architecture, and multi-year evolution of OCI Build and its execution platform.
  • Architect and design scalable, secure, highly available systems that support OCI's growing build and software-delivery needs.
  • Lead complex technical initiatives spanning build orchestration, Kubernetes and compute execution, artifact management, CI/CD, security, and software supply chain.
  • Provide technical leadership for engineering and component designs, reviewing critical architectural decisions and guiding teams toward simple, durable solutions.
  • Anticipate future scale, security, reliability, and developer-experience challenges and translate them into technical investments and platform strategy.
  • Influence architecture and technical direction across teams and organizational boundaries, partnering with senior engineers and leaders throughout OCI.
  • Mentor and guide senior engineers, helping them strengthen system design, technical judgment, and ownership of complex systems.
  • Raise engineering standards across design, code quality, testing, observability, operational readiness, and security.
  • Lead investigation of the most difficult production, scalability, and architectural problems and drive systemic solutions.
  • Communicate complex technical strategy, trade-offs, risks, and investment recommendations clearly to senior and executive leadership.

What We're Looking For

  • Deep experience architecting and operating large-scale distributed systems or cloud infrastructure.
  • Strong software engineering and system-design expertise with demonstrated ownership of technically complex, business-critical systems.
  • Ability to set technical direction across multiple teams while remaining close enough to the technology to guide critical design decisions.
  • Strong judgment across scalability, reliability, security, performance, and operational excellence.
  • Demonstrated ability to mentor senior engineers and elevate the technical capability of an organization.
  • Proven effectiveness influencing across organizational boundaries and communicating technical strategy to senior leadership.
  • Experience in CI/CD, build systems, Kubernetes, compute infrastructure, developer platforms, or software supply-chain security is valuable, but expertise in every area is not required.
