Lead Network Architect

At Siemens Mobility, we are transforming rail infrastructure through innovative signalling, communications, control and electrification systems. Within our Communications & Information Systems (CIS) business, we deliver mission-critical Network, Telecoms and Security solutions supporting operational railway systems across the UK and beyond.
We are seeking an experienced Lead Network Architect to lead the development and delivery of operational telecommunications and network solutions for railway infrastructure projects. This role combines technical leadership, customer engagement and people leadership whilst providing strategic direction to a team of Network and Engineers.
The Lead Network Architect is responsible for defining, assuring and designing secure, resilient network architectures supporting Signalling, SCADA, Voice, Station Information and Security Systems (SISS), and backbone communications networks.
Working closely with customers, delivery partners and multidisciplinary engineering teams you will ensure solutions are designed safely, securely and efficiently throughout the project lifecycle.
This role is based in Ashby-de-la-Zouch or Chippenham (other regional office locations may be considered dependent on experience and suitability). This is a hybrid role, typically requiring 3 days per week in the office and 2 days working from home.

- Provide technical leadership for the team and their allocated tasks, delivering safety through design, to programme ensuring the required governance is applied and approving as responsible engineer for small to medium sized projects where allocated
- Ensure the team achieves successful delivery of Network designs and bids including network architectural design description documents, network architecture diagrams, IP Addressing/Sub-netting design, cable schedules, diversity plans and configuration
- Ensure the team delivery incorporates the required specifications, network security architecture and designs.
- Manage customer requirement and production of system requirements and proposals
- Presenting the network design architecture to the project and the customer.
- Provide leadership, technical support and mentorship to team members.
- Develop associated test specifications, provide support for onsite build and test, and support for integration & system testing
Your role profile may vary from time to time in accordance with business needs. Your annual objective setting with your line manager will outline any additional responsibilities required to meet business or individual development needs for the forthcoming financial year.
What you’ll need to succeed...
- Provide technical leadership for network design activities and allocated projects, delivering in line with agreed programme
- Act as Responsible Engineer or independent checker where assigned.
- Ensure compliance with engineering, quality and safety standards.
- Support bid and proposal development activities.
- Present technical solutions to customers and project stakeholders.
- Lead development of high and low-level network architecture designs.
- Produce architecture diagrams, design descriptions and technical documentation.
- Define IP addressing, subnetting and network resilience strategies.
- Develop secure network and cyber security architectures.
- Support system integration, testing and commissioning activities.
Must haves:
- Degree-qualified in Engineering, Telecommunications, Computer Science or a related discipline, or equivalent experience.
- Established knowledge of the systems engineering lifecycle.
- Experience delivering solutions within safety-related or mission-critical environments.
- Experience working to recognised quality and safety standards.
- Strong communication, stakeholder engagement and leadership skills.
- Ability to work effectively to challenging project timescales.
- Significant experience with LAN/WAN network architectures.
- Strong understanding of network security principles and technologies.
- Experience producing network designs for Signalling, SCADA, Voice, SISS or backbone MPLS networks.
- Cisco CCNA level knowledge or above, supported by significant practical experience.
- Experience producing network design and architecture documentation.
- Ability to communicate complex technical solutions to both technical and non-technical audiences.
