IT Project Intern (12 months)
Starting Salary: £25,878 plus Benefits
Location: Goole
Duration: 12 months
Imagine contributing to projects that help move millions of people every day?
At Siemens Mobility, we're developing innovative transport solutions that are transforming the future of rail and making travel more sustainable. Start your career at the heart of that journey!
Are you an ambitious undergraduate looking for a unique Internship?
Kick-start your career with a 12-month placement that gives you the opportunity to experience life at Siemens Mobility. You'll be immersed in real projects, gaining hands on industry experience, develop valuable business skills and build meaningful relationships across the business. Supported by structured development activities and a network of colleagues and fellow interns, you'll leave the programme with the experience, learning, confidence and connections to take the next step in your career.
Our Rolling Stock and Customer Service business keeps trains running safely and reliably every day. The business delivers expert maintenance, technical support and digital solutions across the full lifecycle of rail fleets, helping customers maximise performance, availability and passenger satisfaction.
We are looking for a motivated Digital intern to join the Digital team at our train manufacturing facility in Goole. This is a hands-on role where you will support Digital project delivery across a range of technologies, from data engineering and automation to app development and SAP.
You will work directly alongside the IT Project Manager and gain real exposure to how digital tools support large-scale manufacturing operations. You will own deliverables, write real code, and see your work used on the shop floor.
You‘ll make a difference by:
- Data & SQL: Write and optimise Snowflake SQL queries to extract and transform SAP production data. Support Power BI dashboards, reports, and data quality checks.
- Automation: Build and maintain automations using Python, VBA, and Power Automate. This includes scheduled reports, form-processing workflows, and SharePoint integrations.
- App Development: Assist with internal apps built on Mendix and Power Apps, including UI screens, data integrations, and testing.
- SAP Support: Help with SAP functional tasks such as master data queries, purchasing workflows, and production order tracking.
- Project Support: Contribute to steering committee updates, documentation, test scripts, and general project coordination across multiple workstreams.
- IT Hardware & Setup: Build and configure laptops for shopfloor colleagues, install operating systems, and ensure devices comply with Siemens IT policies and security standards.
In addition to your day-to-day role and learning, you will take part in a structured development programme consisting of professional skills training and coaching support.
What you’ll need to succeed:
We are seeking innovative and inquisitive candidates that demonstrate the following;
- Currently studying (or recently graduated from) a degree in Computer Science, IT, Data Science, Software Engineering, or a related discipline.
- Comfortable writing SQL queries. You do not need to be an expert, but you should know your way around SELECT, JOIN, and GROUP BY.
- Some experience with Python, VBA, or any scripting or programming language.
- Familiarity with Microsoft 365 tools (Excel, SharePoint, Teams). Experience with Power BI or Power Platform is a bonus.
- Genuine curiosity about how IT systems work in a manufacturing environment.
- A self-starter attitude. You should be able to pick up tasks, ask good questions, and deliver without constant supervision.
Nice to have but not required:
- Exposure to SAP (any module).
- Experience with low-code platforms such as Mendix, Power Apps, or OutSystems.
- Familiarity with Power BI, including report building or basic DAX.
- Basic understanding of data warehousing or ETL concepts.
- Interest in manufacturing, rail, or engineering industries.
What you will get:
- Hands-on experience across a wide technology stack in a real industrial setting.
- Direct mentoring from the IT Project Manager with regular feedback.
- Exposure to enterprise systems (SAP, Snowflake, Azure) at a global company.
- A portfolio of tangible deliverables you can showcase to future employers.
- Insight into how digital transformation works on the ground in manufacturing
