Internship, Robotics Test Automation Engineer, Optimus (Winter/Spring 2027)

This position is expected to start January 2027 and continue through the entire Winter/Spring term (i.e through April/May 2026) or into Summer 2027 if available. We ask for a minimum of 12 weeks, full-time (40 hours/week) and on-site, for most internships.
International Students: If your work authorization is through CPT, please consult your school on your ability to work 40 hours per week before applying. You must be able to work 40 hours per week on-site. Many students will be limited to part-time during the academic year.

Join the Optimus Actuator Testing team developing and validating next-generation actuator gearboxes. This hands-on role focuses on test automation, electrical system bring-up, troubleshooting, and data-driven validation of gearboxes in a fast-paced engineering environment.
Responsibilities
- Support testing of Optimus actuator gearboxes, including executing tests, troubleshooting hardware/software issues, and performing hands-on debugging
- Develop and maintain Structured Text code to automate standard test sequences and create custom test routines on PLC-based systems
- Write MATLAB and Python scripts for data parsing, analysis, and reporting of test results
- Assist in the design, build, electrical wiring, commissioning, and diagnosis of test systems based on given requirements
- Use TwinCAT, CAN communication, Git, and SQL as part of daily test automation and data workflows
- Apply AI tools to accelerate test automation, debugging, and data analysis tasks
- Collaborate closely with engineers to iterate on test coverage and improve system reliability
Requirements
- Currently pursuing a degree in Mechanical Engineering, Robotics, Mechatronics or a related field with a graduation date between May 2027 - December 2027
- Hands-on experience with Structured Text and PLC systems (TwinCAT preferred)
- Proficiency in MATLAB and Python for data analysis and scripting
- Experience with CAN protocols, Git version control, and SQL
- Demonstrated use of AI tools in technical workflows (test automation, debugging, or data analysis)
- Good understanding of rotary and linear gearboxes is preferred
- Strong troubleshooting mindset with a willingness to learn quickly and take ownership of hands-on electrical and test system tasks

Expected Compensation
$20.00 - $50.00 + benefitsPay offered may vary depending on multiple individualized factors, including market location, job-related knowledge, skills, and experience. The total compensation package for this position may also include other elements dependent on the position offered.
