This position is expected to start January 2027 and continue through the entire Winter/Spring term (i.e through April/May 2026) or into Summer 2027 if available. We ask for a minimum of 12 weeks, full-time (40 hours/week) and on-site, for most internships.

International Students: If your work authorization is through CPT, please consult your school before applying. You must be able to work 40 hours per week. Many students will be limited to part-time during the academic year.

We are looking for an exceptional electronics design engineer to join Tesla’s Energy Reliability team as an intern. This role follows the lifecycle of the product from concept to design, development, manufacturing, and field operation to design-in confirmation and grows exceptional product performance at every stage. 

The role will be focused mostly on critical electronics circuit design, and power electronics circuit design validation using electrical hardware design, control, and firmware skills to improve design for reliability engineering products in industrial and residential products. Having hands-on testing with power electronics systems and HV circuit designs are needed.Location: Palo Alto, CA

Responsibilities

  • Creating customized product design to understand electrical and thermal limits for critical failure modes
  • Design of advanced electrical architecture, electronics circuits, processor selection and integration to enhance automation of electrical reliability test engineer
  • Root cause analysis for advanced power electronics circuits, and collaboration in design and manufacturing of existing and future product
  • Thoroughly document design requirements, calculations, power budgets, etc.  
  • Come up with validation plan and verify all the features and interfaces across corners
  • Lead and executing of corner case subsystems and component tests for detailed modeling and providing design guidelines

Requirements

  • Currently pursuing a degree in Electrical, Mechanical or Computer Engineering, Physics or related field 
  • Demonstrated depth in Printed Circuit Board design, and experience in high performance processors, and microcontrollers
  • Good understanding of digital, and analogue circuits and hands-on experience in switching mode power circuits 
  • Demonstrated ability to deconstruct complex test scenarios with good logic and analytics and root-causing correlation problems
  • Proven ability to develop reliability tests, including environmental, mechanical, and electrical stress testing, is highly preferred
  • Basic programming and scripting ability, and Excellent teamwork/interpersonal skills

Expected Compensation

$20.00 - $50.00 + benefits

Pay offered may vary depending on multiple individualized factors, including market location, job-related knowledge, skills, and experience. The total compensation package for this position may also include other elements dependent on the position offered.
