Responsibilities
Workato is looking for a proactive, intellectually curious, and detail-oriented individual to join our Japan team as a Communications Intern. This role will work closely with the Japan leadership team to support communications, research, digital-content, and website initiatives that advance Workato’s government relations and external-positioning priorities in Japan.
You will prepare high-quality communications materials, conduct research on Japan’s digital transformation agenda and relevant policy developments, and support leadership communications—including speaking preparation, briefing materials, digital content, and website updates.
Beyond day-to-day responsibilities, there will be opportunities to take on greater ownership of communications initiatives and research projects based on your interests, performance, and Workato Japan’s priorities.
[Minimum Commitment for Intern] 6-12 months internship:

During school term, at least 15 hours per week (except around exam periods where lesser time allowed)

During school vacation, less than 30 hours per week (within Workato Business Hours, 9am-6pm)
In this role, you will also be responsible to:
-
Researching and monitoring Japan’s digital transformation agenda, policy developments, and technology trends to identify issues and opportunities relevant to Workato
-
Preparing concise briefs, talking points, presentation materials, and updates to support Japan leadership’s meetings, external positioning, and thought-leadership activities
-
Drafting and editing digital communications content in English and Japanese, including social-media content, website copy, event summaries, and internal updates
-
Supporting the design, production, and maintenance of digital communications assets, including presentation materials, simple visual content, and WordPress website updates, guided by basic UI/UX and branding guidelines
-
Supporting content planning and maintaining a content calendar for priority communications initiatives
-
Maintaining organised research files, communications materials, content assets, and internal records for ongoing initiatives
-
Supporting ad hoc strategic communications and government-relations research projects as needed
-
Supporting external engagements and community events as needed
Requirements
Qualifications / Experience / Technical Skills
-
Relevant training, degree, or experience in communications, digital marketing, public relations, business, public policy, technology, entrepreneurship, or a related field
-
Strong storytelling, research, writing, and presentation skills, with an interest in thought leadership, entrepreneurship, and Japan’s technology and innovation ecosystem
-
Experience or strong interest in digital content creation; Familiarity with website management, including WordPress updates, social media, website copy, and basic UI/UX principles is a plus.

Proficient in Google Workspace (Docs, Sheets, and Slides) and social-media platforms; familiarity with graphic design tools like Canva, basic web coding and Wordpress, AI productivity tools, Slack, and Zoom is a plus.

Able to work independently in a fast-paced environment, manage multiple priorities, and meet deadlines

Able to work from the Tokyo Station office 1–2 days per week

Relevant experience through student organisations, marketing, PR, content creation, events, government, entrepreneurship, or business communities is beneficial but not required

Language Proficiency Requirement:

Native-level proficiency in English.

Native or business-fluent spoken and written Japanese (JLPT N1 preferred).
